Re: 2013 New York Yankees Season Long Discussion Thread
The scariest part is still injuries and lack of depth to fill in for them.
Catcher is already subpar
I'm not all that confident in Tex at 1st, he seems to be in decline
Cano at 2B is a critical piece of this team
Jeter has to decline from last year and his range has to be even worse, isn't he like about the oldest SS ever ( except maybe Ripken) ? I think he will go down at some point ( hopefully not), but he has a screwed and plated together ankle.....as do I, I've never been the same after that injury 6 years ago.
I expect zero from A-Roid.
I think the OF is decent if they can play Gardner in CF with Ichiro and Grandy most of the time.
That pitching staff better be great for this team to win 85+ games and eke out a playoff spot.

for those of you who are thinking that teix will come back and actually produce, you got another thing coming to you
wrist injuries are tricky, and knowing his recent injury history, i wouldn't be surprised if this is something that hampered him all season long

Re: 2013 New York Yankees Season Long Discussion Thread
I think the Yankees are going to struggle to find their stride but still be in the race around the ASB, and then take off when Pineda and A-Rod come back.
Is that overly optimistic? Probably, but the team still has a very good rotation and a deep bullpen to keep them in the race while the offense finds itself. And hey you don't know, maybe Boesch will be hot for the month that Granderson is out, Youkilis hits like the Youkilis of old, Hafner stays healthy, and Ichiro in the second half of last year will be the Ichiro this year. Jeter stays healthy and Cano does what Cano does.
It's not out of the realm of possibility, it's just very bleak.

That seems close at the outset, though I think Francisco still could lose out to Musty or perhaps even Neal or Mesa. Diaz seems pretty done, and may be released soon.
After opening day, however, I think that Jeter will be the DH and Nunez the SS against lefty starters, so there will effectively be a Hafner/Nunez platoon for awhile as well, at least until further developments.

Re: 2013 New York Yankees Season Long Discussion Thread
Why is this surprising? They had several RHed mediocre, spare-part OFers, but no viable spare-part from the left side, only two regular OFers until Grandy returns. And the Stadium of course favors LHed power. Boesch allows them to have a mediocre platoon, which is better than a mediocre every day player.
A lefty first baseman to platoon with Rivera would also have helped, but Rivera may be less of a defensive liability at first than in left. I wish Rivera could be platooned as well, but there probably are not enough slots on the 25 man roster even if some mediocre lefty first bagger became available. (Johnson seems below mediocre this spring, by the way.)

I hate when people say "another thing coming." The idiom is "another THINK," OK?
