Re: 2013 Mark Teixeira Performance Thread

I think that we may have seen the last of Tex this year. This team is not going anywhere, and it would be insane with the money/years left to have him potentially make it worse.

The cold fact is that surgery or not, he might never be the same. (never mind he already declined significantly wrist can be awfully tough, particularly for power hitters)

I don't want to be all doom and gloom, but unless he checks out 100%, I say get it over with.

He can still bat RH .935 OPS and .278 BA. His defense is as good as ever.
Platoon him with Overbay for now.
    Let's not get hasty.
Besides what other alternatives do they have?
    Dave Adams at first?

Initial reports didn't sound bad, I think they're just giving him a few days, which is something they probably should have done a day or two ago.

HE's had months of careful rehab and it was never right. He needs to get the surgery done now so MAYBE he'll be ready for next year

Ironically he's likely going to be our best player outside of Cano when he comes back.

Is the WBC off the hook on the re-injury? I haven't seen any mention of this....

Excellent question. I have no idea, but would guess that yes, off the hook, as Tex was activated and played.

why is this a dumb post? the guy has been excuse city every year come postseason. he was signed for his elite hitting, fielding and most importantly, his durability. this guy has fallen off the map by year 4 of an 8 year deal. i almost wish the red sox had signed him.

I doubt 2009 happens without Tex (and CC/AJ)

2009 is almost exclusively thanks to arod. teixeira had a .593 OPS in the playoffs.

take away his 3.2 WAR and yankees still win first in the AL East. so they still make the playoffs without him... and he did nothing then.

Doesn't it seem that every time the Yankees hold off surgery on a player in the hopes he will get over it with rest it backfires and the player needs the surgery anyway. Would A Rod have been ready to play now had he had the hip surgery in November?

They weren't holding off in the hope that he wouldn't need it. He had to wait to have the surgery until he completed a program of pre-surgical strengthing, pre-hab, as it were.

Not sure, but one article at the time said that if players are reinjured during a certain period of time, the wbc continues to foot the bill.

Insurance also applies to players who suffer an injury during the tournament, return to their teams and then suffer a re-occurrence of the same injury within a set time period, the source said.
No idea what that period of time is, or if the article is even accurate.

Maybe Teix will bankrupt the WBC.

Just get the damn surgery already. We all know he will try to comeback, hit .160 for a few weeks and then re-injure it.

When he first came back he hit decently well. I think the bigger problem was Joe not giving him a fking day off until he had issues again. They shouldn't let that happen again.
