Re: 2013 Mariano Rivera Peformance Thread
legitimate question: i wonder if in the event that mo gets hurt again this season (knock on wood), would he call it quits, or would he rehab again and come back just so he can go out on his terms?

Re: 2013 Mariano Rivera Peformance Thread
I can't see him coming back in 2014 under any circumstances. He is unlikely to change teams and the Yanks won't pay him big bucks again.
unless he agrees to play for like 3MM he's done after 2013.
do we really expect him to be elite at 43 or whatever he is now ?
his arm is low mileage though since he pitches like 75 innings a year.

I highly doubt he would return. Buster Olney tweeted saying Mo hinted to him had he been able to come back for the playoffs last year he likely would have retired.

Re: 2013 Mariano Rivera Peformance Thread
Via Joel Sherman: Mariano Rivera will hold a press conference on Saturday morning to announce his retirement from baseball following the 2013 season. He could always change his mind between now and then, but don’t count on it. The press conference is scheduled for 10am ET in Tampa.

If a scumbag like Ray Lewis gets to end his career with a title, certainly the baseball gods will allow karma to intervene so one of the all time class acts Rivera can too right?

I very much agree with the above post that it's sad THIS has to be Mo's last Yankee team. Maybe it will inspire the remaining unhurt players to all have career years (I can hope anyway)

Re: 2013 Mariano Rivera Peformance Thread
That's what I was thinking too. In a way, the injury may be a blessing in disguise. He probably would have announced his retirement after the season and that would have meant fans and other teams would not have the chance to give him the send-off he so richly deserves.
By addressing it now, he will not have to face the same question from the media all year, although I still expect them to continue to ask if he's changed his mind.September 28, 2008 - the day the HOF got a wake-up Moose call.

He should continue to pitch until the Yankees win another World Series!
