Edit again: he would need to give consent to be sent to the minors ... but it would be sweet if they could arrange that consent. He would still get paid his money, but he wouldn't be on the 40 man roster, so it wouldn't count against the luxury tax. [/Dreaming]

I like the signing, but at the same time have no confidence that he can stay healthy. Would be happy with 400 PAs, a number he's eclipsed only once in the last 5 years.

Carl Pavano and Nick Johnson also passed physicals. Some guys just have a knack for getting hurt. Hafner is one of them. Hopefully he breaks the trend, and even if he doesn't he's a solid low risk / high reward acquisition.

Nick Johnson passed his physical before the Yankees signed him for the second time. And of course Carl Pavano passed his physical.

They must have faith that Juan Rivera will be able to be the backup outfielder, backup 1B and maybe even DH against lefties, unless Scissorhands does the DHing against lefties.
