    Jeter (R)
    Ichiro (L)
    Cano (L)
    Teix (S)
    Grandy (L)
    Youk (R)
    Hafner (L)
    Catcher (R)
    Gardner (L)

Girardi's head is gonna explode when facing a RH Starter. I don't see how he can avoid having 2 Leftys batting in a row.

He'll have to swap Jeter and Ichiro, and trick himself into forgetting that the #9 and #1 guys bat back to back.

Overall, I think it's a good move, especially for the money. Hopefully, he's used up his quota for the DL. Good attitude too.

I like this move a lot. Kudos to Cashman for filling an obvious hole with an undervalued player.

Now all we need is a catcher.

Actually, it's pretty easy how he can and probably will avoid it. Ichiro will be batting leadoff (or Gardner) and Jeter bats 2nd. He did that a few times last season as well.

I really like this signing for the Yankees. He has a chance to be a better version of Raul Ibanez.

I am a fan of this signing. Any idea how much $ he is getting?

He should be a monster in YS.

Except Hafner cannot play any defense whatsoever.

And yes - I realize that Raul's 'defense' was barely that.

meh, Ibanez might as well of not even been in the field, considering howhorrible he was.

    Who would bat 9th?

Ichiro and Gardner would be batting back to back if the inning lined itself up that way since one would be lead off and the other would be #9

No problem, Cervelli or Stewart bat 3rd... We obviously feel any catcher will do, so why not any hitter batting 3rd..

(please note this was heavy sarcasm!)

Haven't seen anything official but NYT had the following. I'm assuming it will be very similar to Ibanez' deal.

He has agreed to an incentive-laden deal with the Yankees with a base salary close to $2 million.

Looks like Girardi's trickiness powers are stronger than even I imagined.

Maybe Girardi can stop worrying about alternating lefty righty and start focusing on producing the best lineup possible for a given starting pitcher.

Re: Yankees close to signing Travis Hafner

Any guesses on who gets designated to make room for Hafner?

Edit: Arod would make it through waivers (unfortunately).

Edit again: he would need to give consent to be sent to the minors ... but it would be sweet if they could arrange that consent. He would still get paid his money, but he wouldn't be on the 40 man roster, so it wouldn't count against the luxury tax. [/Dreaming]

A-rod's contract would still count against the luxury tax.
