The All Time Good Guy Team
Thinking about the comments concerning Stan Musial, I thought I'd start a thread where we collectively picked an all time good guy team.
I'll start it as follows;
C Yogi Berra, Roy Campanella (HM)
1B Lou Gehrig
2B
3B Cal Ripkin
SS Phil Rizzutto
LF Stan Musial
CF
RF Roberto Clemente
P Robin Roberts, Jim Bunning
This is a start at least. I hope you can help fill in the blanks or add to the names

HM of Sean casey for 1B
CF, Ken Griffey Jr? He's very charitable, even in his personal life as he adopted one of his kids since his wife was adopted as a kid.

Re: The All Time Good Guy Team
Curtis Granderson is an all-around good guy and is very charitable, so he'd slot in CF nicely with the old timers on your list.

I might add a DH to the team so I could include Harmon Killebrew.

Re: The All Time Good Guy Team
Keep em coming. I love this list. Maybe we can come up with a Bad Guys list.
This winter is long. Can't wait for ST. We leave on 3/15 return 3/25. We already have tickets for 8 games. We get the ninth Wed when the Pirates go on sale. They play the Yanks in Bradenton. So far we have tickets to four Yankee home Games , three away games (Pitt, Phila and Detroit) and a Phila at Atlanta game and an Altanta at Philly game. There is a Yankee at Philly included.
This will be my 28th or 29th ST. The Yankees moved to Tampa from Ft Lauderdale in 1996 and we have been to ST in Tampa for about 11 of those years and in Ft Lauderdale for about 17 years. You can say that we are ST junkies.

Re: The All Time Good Guy Team
All bias aside, I believe that if all his peers throughout his career were polled, as well as fans (and even mediots who have dealt with him), Jeter would come out with a landslide. (Not knocking Wagner - just not familiar with 'him'.)
Would imagine the same for Raul. Heard about his reputation even prior to his unprecendented 2012 heroics. Doubt there was a baseball person anywhere not thrilled for him.
Giving these guys extra "points", too, considering the modern microscope they're playing under (compared to bygone days.)He'll never get another milestone like that one. So what? His whole career is a milestone.

Al Kaline always had a rep for being a good guy. For that matter, Tim Wakefield always impressed me as a stand-up guy.

Re: The All Time Good Guy Team
I would not put Gehrig ahead of Foxx on this team. Gehrig was involved in a few brawls, and was ejected from games. He would sometimes be cold or moody if in a slump. What he was, was the consummate professional, as well as quiet and unassuming for the most part. He basically played and minded his buisness. But if you irked him the wrong way, he'd let you know about it.
Foxx on the other hand was never ever ejected from a game. He was a good, pleasant guy, no matter if he was playing well, or if he was slumping. When he got benched in one game late in his career, and all the sportswriters were attacking the manager, he went out of his way to blame himself, as to deflect the criticism. I don't know if many of you know, but he was so generous, he'd pick up entire tabs by himself, which was fine when he was playing, but which ultimately led him to file for bankruptcy.
I'll leave you all with this story about Foxx. When word spread that Foxx was living day to day, with no money to his name, his ex Redsox teammates decided to raise money and give it to him. When Ted Williams approached Foxx with the money, Foxx turned him down saying "Aw shucks Ted, there are kids out there who need this more than me". He chose to give away the money to charity, and died broke.

Re: The All Time Good Guy Team
you could move Cal over to SS where he prob belongs, but then he goes up against Jeter which I'd have a tough time deciding. Not knowing Robinson myself as a player, before my time, I'd again choose Chipper Jones. Also, Brandon Phillips is a great guy as well. He's a ham on that mic.
