Re: The Injury Update Thread 2013
What makes the injury worse than ever, is that Granderson was being counted heavily for offensive production and combined with the fact that the Yankees really came into this spring without a capable 4th OFer.

Re: The Injury Update Thread 2013
This maybe the year for Yankee minor league prospects to step up and see if they can make the big team. If not, what do they do?

Re: The Injury Update Thread 2013
Youkilis says he is fine:
http://yankees.lhblogs.com/2013/02/2...ld-play-today/After running and taking batting practice yesterday, Kevin Youkilis felt a cramp in his left side. He considered it a non-issue. The Yankees considered it a potential warning sign.
“I got up today and was moving around fine,” Youkilis said. “It’s one of those things where, I think after I swung yesterday and running and all that, it was hot and I got a little dehydrated. When I got water in me, I was fine. Being a month away from games and all that, they just wanted to take it precautionary. I wanted to play today and was perfectly fine to play and didn’t feel like there was in risk.”
Is an MRI planned?
“Oh God no,” Youkilis said. “The doctor said very, very mild. Just a little thing that happens. I think I kind of learned my lesson, too. Don’t say you’re tight.”

Re: The Injury Update Thread 2013
Some minor updates on minor injuries:
http://yankees.lhblogs.com/2013/03/0...gan-heathcott/– Phil Hughes is still on track to play catch tomorrow. It will be his first time picking up a baseball since the bulging disc.
– Boone Logan as a sore left elbow. He skipped his scheduled sim game. An MRI showed no damage so he will just rest for a few days.
– Slade Heathcott has a sprained right thumb. It happened when he ran into Ronnier Mustelier in the outfield. An MRI showed no significant damage. Joe Girardi said the injury is very minor.

Re: The Injury Update Thread 2013
Hughes played catch today with no problems. Logan claims his arm wants to throw, but his elbow doesn't.
On Hughes:
http://yankees.lhblogs.com/2013/03/0...e-back-injury/ (video at this link)When a guy says he’s been cleared to play catch, it literally means, play catch. As in, throw a baseball back and forth with someone, often from not very far away.
“It was light,” Hughes said. “First day, they didn’t want me to go crazy, especially in the cold. Twenty five easy throws and we’ll ramp it up from there.”
Of course, throwing a baseball isn’t the only thing Hughes is doing in his recovering from a bulging disc in his upper back.
“Heat, massage, all that stuff,” Hughes said. “There’s a back strengthening program and a stretching program, and I’m doing all of that every day as well. This is now the third back issue, so it’s something that I’ll have to monitor and keep an eye on and do everything I can to strengthen that area and hopefully not have any more issues.”
Hughes was pretty far ahead of the other big league starters at the time of his injury, and he said it’s too early to know whether that will accelerate his return.
“It’s hard to say,” he said. “I’ll just base it on how I feel. First time I get on a mound and each step after that, I just have to feel where I’m at. I’ll know if I’ve picked up right where I left off, or I’ll know if I went backwards a little bit. I think the real test will be getting on the mound the first time, then I’ll really be able to assess where I’m at.”
On Logan:
http://yankees.lhblogs.com/2013/03/0...-center-field/• Forgot to mention this morning that Boone Logan’s MRI was a full dye-contrast MRI, so the Yankees got a pretty thorough look at it before determining that he has nothing more than inflammation. “My strength’s good, everything’s good, my arm wants to go, it wants to throw, and it’s just kind of one of those little annoying feelings,” Logan said. “I’m tired of feeling it. If I keep going and it doesn’t go away, it would make for a long year.”

Yankees general manager Brian Cashman broke his right ankle during a parachute jump with the Army Golden Knights on Monday, but said that he still considered the event an "awesome experience."
