Re: The Injury Update Thread 2013
Still think we should have waited for Pitchers and Catchers, but oh well ... Here's what I usually put at the beginning of these threads (an annual tradition since 2009):
Please note that this is not an Official Injury Update Thread. Feel free to post news about injuries to a particular player in that player's megathread. I just thought that it would be nice to have a single thread that would be mainly for news about various injuries to anyone on the team, so those who are bothered by the megathreads could come here for the latest on who's hurt and who's coming back.

Re: The Injury Update Thread 2013
Well, this sounds like good news:
Dr. Bryan Kelly tells Yankees that Alex Rodriguez has less cartilage damage in hip than expected, source says
Alex Rodriguez’s surgeon, Dr. Bryan Kelly, told the Yankees that he discovered less cartilage damage in A-Rod’s hip than expected, a good sign that the third baseman will have fewer complications as he tries to come back, a source said.
“It was minimal,” the source said. “Now it’s up to his rehab.”
Minimal cartilage damage means “they wouldn’t have to do a microfracture (procedure) or anything where they are trying to regenerate areas where the cartilage has worn away,” said Dr. Derek Ochiai, an orthopedic surgeon and hip arthroscopy specialist in Arlington, Va.
“That will mean his rehab has the highest chance of successfully getting back to the level with his hip that he was before his hip started hurting.”Last edited by -tz; 01-18-13 at 11:06 PM.

Jeter back on the field:
http://yankees.lhblogs.com/2013/01/2...ills-in-tampa/Jeter goes through drills in Tampa
From The Associated Press down in Tampa…
TAMPA, Fla. — Derek Jeter has worked out on a baseball field for the first time since breaking his left ankle last October.
The 38-year-old New York Yankees captain fielder 55 grounders on the grass in front of the infield dirt at shortstop Monday at the team’s minor league complex. He also hit in a batting cage.
“Everything went well,” Jeter says.
The 13-time All-Star expects to start in New York’s opener against Boston on April 1. This is the time of year Jeter usually starts his onfield pre-spring training routine.
Jeter broke the ankle lunging for a grounder in the AL championship series opener against Detroit on Oct. 13. He had surgery a week later, and the Yankees said recovery time would be four to five months.
Jeter has been walking on an underwater treadmill at the team’s facility since early January.

Pineda threw his final flat-ground session today and will throw from a half-mound tomorrow for the first time. He hasn’t had any setbacks since the surgery and the hope is that he’ll be ready to return at some point in June.

Re: The Injury Update Thread 2013
Brian Cashman appeared on ESPN Radio today and had this to say about Jeter and Pineda:
(Via LoHud)• Derek Jeter’s rehab from ankle surgery is going as expected. He’s taking ground balls directly at him — not fielding side-to-side yet — and hitting in the cage. The Yankees have been told that, medically, Jeter should be fine to begin running, but the Yankees are going to wait and make running the last thing he does. “We’re just going to take him out slowly because we have time,” Cashman said. “The goal is starting shortstop Opening Day against Boston. There’s no reason that’s not going to happen. He’s really 100 percent healthy and he’s just now knocking the rust off.”
• Cashman did not going into specifics about Michael Pineda’s rehab from shoulder surgery, only said that he’s been throwing off a half mound for a few days now. Certainly left no indication that there’s been any sort of setback with Pineda.

So he is pretty much up to par fielding wise? ZING!!!!!!!
I had to, with all the Jeter has no range & is terribad in the field conversation over the past 20 years. You know they are not real pies, right?

Hmmm.
SS Derek Jeter (ankle) spent just two over hours at the complex but did not field grounders.RHP Michael Pineda (shoulder surgery) threw 25 pitches during his third session off a 5-inch half mound. He is expected to be sidelined until at least June.

@eboland11 Rothschild said no setbacks as yet for Pineda during half mound sessions. Could progress to full mound by next week"All she wanted to do today was Spa and Club" ~ "I like your verbs that are things. I think I'm going to Sandwich while I Sofa here for a while."
