During that run of 4 championships in 5 years I thought Torre had the golden touch. His subs would hit on the days he played them and his PH's usually hit in big spots, it was crazy, sometimes it seemed like divine intervention, but thats because we were deep. When you have guys like Straw and Chilli and Raines and Fielder coming off your bench, you're gonna look like a genius more often than not.

Thing is, identifying the problem is only a start.

Maybe it's physical issues like lower bat speed that are causing the adjustments. He's got his own hip issues ( ironic he's Al's replacement @ 3rd, no ? ) and maybe that's causing the changed mechanics.

Of course hoping for the best, but I think we need to temper our expectations.

Basically, we hired a player, paid him 12 million dollars and now we are going to try to help him learn to hit again. Not saying it won't work but an unusal approach to say the least!

I don't think Youkilis needs to be taught how to hit again. He just needs to be healthy, otherwise no amount of work with Long is going to change much.
