Re: Greinke and Dodgers expected to agree to 6/145M deal soon

What's their (Dodgers) payroll at for next year?
    205 million?

I'm wondering who Selig is gonna manipulate the rules so the Dodgers don't get penalized....

He'd be helping the Yankees by proxy, so probably not.
Thank you for making me calm today, Brett Gardner

So I assume they will have a rotation of Kershaw, Grienke, Beckett, Ryu and Billingsley/Lilly/Capuano/Harang? I wonder if it is possible to pry Billingsley away.

    No he wouldn't.
He'd find a way to give the Dodgers an exemption and still crush down on the Yankees.

Just out of curiosity, would anyone care to rank the following rotations (in terms of performance)?

    Kershaw/Greinke/Billingsley/Beckett

    Strasburg/Gonzalez/Zimmermann/Haren

    Halladay/Hamels/Lee/Who cares?

Over the course of a season, I'd go with Washington's. If we're talking about using these rotations for the playoffs, give me Philly's and it ain't particularly close.

Actually over the course of the season it would be LA because Washington will shut two guys down in August.

So will this be the first season in foreversauce where we don't have the highest payroll in baseball?

Of course, to get to the playoffs, there's a little matter of navigating the course of a season.

If they ask who was our star, give them 25 names, and if you forget our names, just tell them we were Yankees.

Dodger payroll is 218 million and counting for 2013. They realize there is still only 25 per active roster, right?

They can afford 300 million on media rights alone, Dodgers are the new Yankees

I wonder how much they need to pay for revenue sharing if they do get that TV deal.

Thanks to a very generous bankruptcy agreement, their TV deal will count as 80 million for the life of the deal. It will increase by a percent each year up to a maximum.

The Dodgers are sitting very pretty right now. The Yankees TV deal will pay them 84 million + 3-4% annual increase, which they will include all of for revenue sharing. The Dodgers will get 250+ million and only have 85 million open to revenue sharing :<

The Dodgers are an 8% payor right now, which won't change until their TV deal starts getting counted in the 200s or high 100s

Kerhsaw, Greinke, Ryu, Chad Billingsley, Josh Beckett, Ted Lilly, Aaron Harang and Chris Capuano... 8 starters!

They'll probably move 2 of em and keep one around in reserve in case of injuries etc.

    Also, fun trivia fact:

The last time the Dodgers had the highest payroll in MLB was 1989, when the LAD payroll was $21 million and the NYY payroll was $20 million.

At least Greinke was honest during the press conference when asked why he signed with LA. "Well, there's the money......."

Re: Greinke and Dodgers expected to agree to 6/145M deal soon

I was watching Clubhouse Confidential from Monday that I DVR'd and it appears according to the stats Brian Kenny and the dude from Baseball Prospectus believes this deal will be good. The overall reasoning is because, and I am paraphrasing and summarizing here...

Pitchers tend to revert back to their k rates, bb rates and not necessarily their runs allowed. So they expect him to regress back to his 09 form to some degree and taking this along side that he was the best pitcher available, signed for only 6 years, and to the team with a seemingly bottomless pit of money, the deal makes sense for both him and the Dodgers.

Probably Lilly and Capuano are gonna be the odd men out in this situation. They are probably gonna hold on to Billingsley and Harang.
