    Joel Sherman ‏@Joelsherman1
A-Rod will miss at least piece of '13. Hope is surgery will allow for successful player again for #Yankees

    Joel Sherman ‏@Joelsherman1
So #Yankees now dealing with both Jeter and eventually A-Rod coming back from surgery. Desperately need left side IF help

Well at this point just have to hope he comes back like he did in 2009.

Well, in a way it's a plus because it explains his lack of power last year.

And once corrected he'll be more productive- till the next body part disintegrates

Well this sucks. Hope he can come back and be somewhat productive. However, you don't usually hear "hip surgery" talked about for people under 50 years old.

Can he get help from the same witch doctor that revived Bartolo Colon's career?
Mariano Rivera was so great he was able to close a Denny's.

I guess it's fair to say when he comes back he's pretty much a full-time DH from here on out?

So, as currently constituted (which is obviously not how I expect it to end up), a third of the opening day lineup will be Nunez, Nix, Romine. Fun times.

I know it's tough to police. But it would be nice if the Yankee players would be upfront with management. The fact that he was playing with this injury is fairly absurd.

When he originally had the hip problem, weren't they saying he'd need another procedure and then said he wasn't having it? I remember wondering if that was a good decision at the time...appears it wasn't if it's the same procedure.

Pretty sure the Yankees knew about this given the fact that he was "being treated" for something late last year.

Didn't we just DFA Nix? Are we bringing back Chavez?

Perhaps we can convince David Wright and the Mets to part ways. Promises of candy and funny stories usually work on the Mets front office...

This may explain why he had such an awful season, but it wasn't exactly the brightest move he made to try to play through it. If he'd had the second procedure this year, he'd most likely be ready to go next year. Rather than have Girardi agonize over if/when to take him out of the line-up, they could have had some plan in place.

It is pretty scary though, Pettitte, Rivera, Jeter, and A-Rod will all be coming off pretty serious injuries and are all 37+ years old... Not to mention CC having an injury ridden season last year. Baring a big move this offseason Cano and Tex better have monster seasons next year.

I really didn't have high expectations for either ARod or Jeter in 2013.

Yea, I remember a time when the offseason was actually fun. The winter meetings this year are gonna be a snoozefest.

Joel Sherman ‏@Joelsherman1 Can add new A-Rod info. The injury is the LEFT hip, not the previously operated upon right 1. Same injury: Torn labrum

Not to say this year, but it actually makes me think the he will not play through the whole contract.

He has no chance of breaking the record and the insurance will cover part of his salary.

I don't know if this is better or worse than it being on the same hip...

I don't know. He has what, 4.5 years to hit 115 home runs? I bet he gambles that he can be a 25 homerun player again and doesn't retire.
