Well, in a way it's a plus because it explains his lack of power last year.
And once corrected he'll be more productive- till the next body part disintegratesGreetings from Pensacola- highest per capita tattooed grandmothers in the US

Well this sucks. Hope he can come back and be somewhat productive. However, you don't usually hear "hip surgery" talked about for people under 50 years old.

Can he get help from the same witch doctor that revived Bartolo Colon's career?

I guess it's fair to say when he comes back he's pretty much a full-time DH from here on out?

So, as currently constituted (which is obviously not how I expect it to end up), a third of the opening day lineup will be Nunez, Nix, Romine. Fun times.

When he originally had the hip problem, weren't they saying he'd need another procedure and then said he wasn't having it? I remember wondering if that was a good decision at the time...appears it wasn't if it's the same procedure.

Re: Alex Rodriguez To Have Hip Surgery- Miss Part of 2013 Season
This may explain why he had such an awful season, but it wasn't exactly the brightest move he made to try to play through it. If he'd had the second procedure this year, he'd most likely be ready to go next year. Rather than have Girardi agonize over if/when to take him out of the line-up, they could have had some plan in place.

It is pretty scary though, Pettitte, Rivera, Jeter, and A-Rod will all be coming off pretty serious injuries and are all 37+ years old... Not to mention CC having an injury ridden season last year. Baring a big move this offseason Cano and Tex better have monster seasons next year.

I really didn't have high expectations for either ARod or Jeter in 2013.

Joel Sherman @Joelsherman1 Can add new A-Rod info. The injury is the LEFT hip, not the previously operated upon right 1. Same injury: Torn labrum
