Holy sh*t, just getting off the floor. Not that I loved Martin that much, just did not think it would happen. OK, so what is plan B?

I'm shocked he only got two years for $17mm. Thought he would get 3 for $25mm or something...
Wow.

Re: Farewell, Sweet Prince (Russell Martin Edition)
So long R-Mart, nice knowin' ya!
I'm confident with the Yankees resources that they'll find a suitable replacement. I liked Martin just fine, but this isn't something to panic over. Pittsburgh just gave $8.5m per to a guy who hasn't broken a 100 OPS+ since 2008

Re: Farewell, Sweet Prince (Russell Martin Edition)
I dont like him and part of me wanted him gone....but something tells me when its June and our catchers have a combined OPS of somewhere in the low to mid .600s....I'll miss Martin.

Re: Farewell, Sweet Prince (Russell Martin Edition)
Well half of what I wanted to happen has happened so far. However, if they are panning on having ichiro, cervelli and god knows who else in the lineup then I will be officially pissed.

Re: Farewell, Sweet Prince (Russell Martin Edition)
Martin probably wanted the chance to catch A. J. Burnett again.
Per MLBTR, the Dodgers are in on Pierzynski and if they sign him, they may look to trade A. J. Ellis. Possibility?

Re: Farewell, Sweet Prince (Russell Martin Edition)
Anything that allows Francisco Cervelli to get extended playing time is a negative in my books. It's gonna be great when we have him and Nunez on the same field.

Re: Farewell, Sweet Prince (Russell Martin Edition)
There's no way Cervelli is playing much, if at all, for us next year. Cashman thought so highly of him last year he traded away a useful bp arm in Kontos for all glove/no bat Chris Stewart.
Romine isn't ready, at least until he proves he can stay healthy and hit at AAA. I expect Stewart back as the backup.
I'm not the biggest AJP fan, but if they have to throw stupid money at him to get him for 1 yr do it. They won't be spending that money in 2014 anyway, might as well go all-in with these 1 yr deals for veterans.
If the Dodgers sign him to a 2 or 3 year deal, maybe that means Ellis is expendable. I'm still not sure why they'd want to replace him. 270/373/414 last year and threw out 33% of baserunners. That OBP isn't a fluke either, he consistently got on base in the minors and in limited MLB time in 10/11. Plus, he's only arb eligible for the first time and under team control through at least 2016.

Re: Farewell, Sweet Prince (Russell Martin Edition)
he's probably replaceable enough, but please god, don't let the replacement be Pierzynski.

Re: Farewell, Sweet Prince (Russell Martin Edition)
I think not overpaying him and letting him go was a good move. Hopefully we need one more year and one of our prospects can take over at catcher. Catcher is about the only position that we can save some money at if we are going to be under the cap for 2014.

Re: Farewell, Sweet Prince (Russell Martin Edition)
The Yankees supposedly wanted Martin and he didn't get 3 years. If the FO wasn't willing to go the extra couple million, this "budget" is getting really tiring! Doesn't bode we'll for the future. Wonder if they won't sign anyone for more than 1 year?
