Hiroki Kuroda or pick
at first i thought HK but now i'm thinking pick. HK is only pitching 1 more year. while he did pitch better than expected i dont think he can repeat the year he had not saying he is going to pitch horrible. i feel the pick is more valuable. how worse off would we be if we gave all HK starts to phelps. i would not be mad if they sign him but right now i'm thinking pick unless someone can change my mind.

Kuroda. Didn't even have to think.
Thank you for making me calm today, Brett Gardner

Re: Hiroki Kuroda or pick
I think I take the pick.
I have a very difficult time believing that Hiro will come close to repeating what he did last sesaon. And instead of overpaying for what could be a league average pitcher, get a new arm into the system, save the money and let Phelps pitch."Leave it to Yankees fans to be upset at having too many great players.”—Hitman23

Re: Hiroki Kuroda or pick
This question is a very valid question and one that can be debated either way, IMO.
At the moment, our rotation is
Sabathia
Hughes
Nova
Phelps
Warren
I am presuming Adam Warren would be the fifth starter as the roster currently stands. Pineda is not supposed to be ready until mid-season and Betances has basically fallen off the radar screen.
Assuming Pettitte re-signs with the Yankees, he would move into the #2 spot, with Phelps/Warren battling for the 5th spot.
I clearly would not suggest that we go into the season with a starting staff where Andy Pettitte is the #2 starter (he is, at best, a #3 IMO) - Kuroda would provide a significant upgrade to the staff if re-signed.
The issue, however, is for how much and how long - it is certainly conceivable that Kuroda will receive multi-year offers and he has already turned down $13.3M from the Yankees. If he is willing to accept a one-year, $15M deal, I say sign him and forego the draft pick.
However, if the issue becomes a multi-year deal, I say pass and take the draft pick.
IMO, your choices need to include an "IT DEPENDS" option, which is what I select.Forgive me for taking the Contrarian view

Re: Hiroki Kuroda or pick
The Yankees should be getting 2 picks back from Soriano & Swisher. They need Kuroda to compete next year, and thus they should sign him and take the 2 picks from So & Swish.

As much as I like Kuroda, he won't be here long-term. I choose the pick.
Wouldn't mind him coming back either.

Re: Hiroki Kuroda or pick
Study after study have shown picks beyond the top 10 are basically crap shoots.
I'll take Kuroda over a supplemental pick 10/10.

Re: Hiroki Kuroda or pick
When is the last time a pick of ours became a pitcher as good as Hiroki Kuroda was last year?

Re: Hiroki Kuroda or pick
Kuroda was our most consistent pitcher last season. I'd try and re-sign him.

Re: Hiroki Kuroda or pick
Spot on re: the pick. I don't expect much from it. I just don't think Kuroda will be as effective next season. He was probably a bit lucky last year, although he's pulled that off two yeats in a row.
I wouldn't cry if we resigned him. $15 million seems high, but one year is great.

Re: Hiroki Kuroda or pick
i tried to play a ootp game with budget constraints. lasted about a month before i said ................ it and just edited cano to have 250 in every stat.
in budget constraint situation the additional value of a flexible short term deal gets more important. kuroda would be good without that, but he does. so it's a no brainer

Re: Hiroki Kuroda or pick
15m for 1 year of 190-200ip 100ERA+ pitcher is not an overpay.
Even the Marlins were willing to give Buehrle (worse records, though younger) 58/4.
That should tell you a little bit about what league "average" 100~115ERA+ 200IP pitchers are worth in the open market.
Yankees themselves were willing to give Kuroda 26/2. It was Kuroda that turned it down.

Re: Hiroki Kuroda or pick
pick can be a crapshoot and we then wont have a #2 starter. CC is coming off elbow surgery, not sure if Pettitte can stay healthy enough to give you 150 innings and both Nova/Hughes are that consistent.
We need KurodaThe real reason why the Yankees keep winning is cause the other team can't stop staring at the damn pinstripes
