http://web.worldbaseballclassic.com/...#rules_pitcher
The aggregate number of pitches thrown in two successive games over two days is not used to determine pitcher rest restrictions.
Throw no more than
65 pitches per game in the First Round of the Tournament;
80 pitches per game in the Second Round of the Tournament; and
95 pitches per game in the Championship Round of the Tournament;
unless the pitcher needs more to complete a batter's plate appearance; and
Throw no more than
50 pitches per exhibition game for a Federation Team, or the maximum number of pitches that WBCI sets forth for such pitcher for such exhibition game, whichever is less, if the pitcher is under reserve to an MLB Club. WBCI may set forth such a maximum upon the written request of the pitcher's MLB Club.It's not the 27 World Championships that drive the New York Yankees. It's the 28th.

Hey, a Pat Venditte sighting!

EDIT: And he just broke Mauer's bat! He's only throwing lefty because of surgery on his right shoulder.

Re: 2013 World Baseball Classic Thread
Sunday March 10 slate will be a dandy...
Inside the Tokyo Dome in Round 2, Pool 1 play, two-time WBC champions Japan and rising powerhouse Kingdom of the Netherlands face-off to see who will be the first team heading to San Francisco as a semifinalist.
The winner automatically books their spot in the semifinals while the loser has to deal with Cuba for the other seeding spot on Monday March 11. A big prize at stake for NED and JPN.
Will the Dutch overcome their RISP woes? They're batting 9 for 46 so far in the tournament while Japan is 12 for 41.
Meanwhile inside San Juan's Hiram Bithorn Stadium, Spain and Venezuela clash to see who gets third place in Round 1, Pool C and qualify for the 2017 WBC tournament and the loser finishes dead last and has to play their way in.
In the night cap, the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico face off to see who wins Pool C.
Finally back in Phoenix's Chase Field, the United States and Canada face off to see who will join Italy from Pool D in Round 2.
If the United States beat Canada, the U.S. wins Pool D based on their head-to-head edge over Italy 6-2 on March 9. Canada will finish third and qualifies for the 2017 tournament and Mexico has to play their way in.
If Canada beats the United States, Italy wins Pool D based on their head-to-head edge over Canada back on March 8 when they won via Mercy Rule after 8 innings 14-4. Mexico will finish third over the United States based on the head-to-head edge and the U.S. has to play their way into the 2017 WBC.It's not the 27 World Championships that drive the New York Yankees. It's the 28th.

Re: 2013 World Baseball Classic Thread
The United States vs. Canada winner-take-all clash will be interesting.
I think it will come down to which team is more effective with runners in scoring position.
For the United States, their pitching and defense w/RISP has been stellar as Mexico and Italy are a combined for a .071 BA (1 for 14) through two games.
However, the U.S. will face a Canada team that is 10 for 27 (.370) with RISP in the two games against Italy and Mexico especially against the Mexicans where they went 7 for 14.
The U.S. hitting w/RISP is putrid as they're batting .154 (4 for 26) in that department while Canada's pitching and defense w/RISP is 11 for 35 (.314), but Italy shredded them going 9 for 16 when they faced the Canucks.It's not the 27 World Championships that drive the New York Yankees. It's the 28th.

What a night for David Wright last night, the grand slam was electric!
Japan up 16-4 on the Netherlands in the Bot 7th with 1 out. Netherlands needs at least 2 runs this inning or the game will be called due to the mercy rule. Japan has hit 6 HR's including a grand slam.
Later this afternoon:
