    Great point ...

You guys think he goes insane ? Something like .320 - 37 Hrs 135 RBI ... Or will he let his swag talk for his big contract ?

? Can switching to Geico really save you 15 % or more on car insurance ? ? Does the postman always ring twice ?

At this point 15 years ago, they were also on the verge of trading for Chuck Knoblauch. It doesn't look like they've got any plans to make a major trade this time around.

Plus, although Bob Watson was GM, Stick was very much involved in all player personnel moves and it was a Stick-created team. That was like a comfortable, reassuring blanket, in and of itself.

Outside of two seasons, I don't agree with this.

After 2000, think of: Giambi, A-Rod, Sheffield, Matsui, Damon, Abreu, Pettitte pt2, Tex, CC, Swisher, Granderson, Kuroda, Soriano... those weren't/aren't exactly bad guys to focus on and I wouldn't say they didn't have at least part of their "run" in a Yankee uniform. Did it result in a string of WS titles like the dynasty? No. Should the team have put more emphasis on the draft/IFA? Probably. But I don't think a general statement like this stands.

The only stretch where I really think this applies was '04/'05 when they picked up Brown, Johnson, Pavano and Wright. I don't include Vazquez in there because frankly I think he was a solid pickup both times (although history proved it wrong). But during that period they just signed the theoretical best arms available and it blew up in their faces.

Seriously, though - people on this thread have criticized the Yankees for not developing young talent from within, then you get proposals like "Roy Oswalt for the #5 starter". Seriously? The fifth starter role is exactly where you look to develop young talent.

Someone like Nova or Phelps or Warren needs to be considered for that position, not an over the hill pitcher (although we did have success with the Freddy Garcia experiment).
I agree. I mean it's always nice to have pitching depth but signing Oswalt would be a silly move.

It was crazy around here back then. Crazier than now. People were complaining and calling each other names. If I remember correctly it caused World War Purge III. We lost a lot of great NYYFans.com forumers that winter.
    Whatever you think...

In my opinion, if Yankees weren't comfortable with their current rotation, they would have made a bigger push for Marcum, Jackson, Haren, or Liriano. They need a right handed hitter outfielder and then I think they're done

And back in those days, many forumers often referred to Bill Dickey, Roger Peckerpaugh and Birdie Cree as "gay" but were describing their temperament and not disparaging their sexual proclivities, so no one was banned.
