Re: New York Yankees 2012-2013 Offseason Outlook
Why am I not surprised. They seem intent on having a black hole at catcher this season: http://itsaboutthemoney.net/archives...t-in-kottaras/

Buster Olney seems pretty big on the Braves - D'backs working out something for JUpton.
I wonder who would go back to AZ, and if there is any way the Yanks could benefit, assuming that Cashman isn't asleep at the wheel.SI: Do you have a secret ambition?

Do you mean, could he top what they are offering? Other then that, I don't see how the Yankees benefit or get hurt by this deal.
If it's a similar package to what the Mariners offer, it doesn't mean Cashman is asleep at the wheel just because he doesn't want to gut the farm system.

Re: New York Yankees 2012-2013 Offseason Outlook
What I meant was that if the trade will trade any vacancies or redundancies with either team that the Yankees could take advantage of.
For example, the trade would probably make Reed Johnson expendable, same with Juan Francisco. On the flip side, if the Braves ditch Simmons, Francisco, and/or Pastornicky, they might have a use for a guy like Nunez.SI: Do you have a secret ambition?

Scott Hairston to the Cubs, 2 yr deal, "will receive up to $6MM over the course of the two years including incentives. "

I'm truly at a loss on this one. What did Cashman not like here? It can't be the contract.

There is absolutely no reason to be upset over losing out on Hairston.

Re: New York Yankees 2012-2013 Offseason Outlook
I wouldnt say I am upset....more like confused. We could use right handed power and Hairston would have helped fill that void at a pretty cheap price.

Re: New York Yankees 2012-2013 Offseason Outlook
It's more than that. Hairston was a serious target. He was one of the few players this team expressed any interest in this offseason, and he appeared to be a primary goal. What's concerning is that they seem incapable of executing a deal even with lower tier players they need and want.

Hairston + Schierholtz + Kottaras = $9.25M total ($6.25M in 2013). Ichiro = $13M total ($6.50M in 2013).

Zero chance we make a big move now with just a few weeks left... This is the team we're pretty much breaking camp with

Well that, and the front office's short-sighted, disingenuous austerity measures mean that they can't stomach any player making more than $500k -- unless they used to be an All-Star and are over 35 --- have to have something to fill your unsold season ticket packets with.

Re: New York Yankees 2012-2013 Offseason Outlook
Looks like the package headed to AZ includes Randall Delgado and a few other big prospects. I do agree that the FO's unwillingness to add anything more than a 1 year committment (which for some reason they broke for Ichiro), is extremely annoying. It is not every day that a player like Justin Upton is being booted out the door, and the Yankees definitley missed the boat on this. He would have been great as a RF solution for a long time.
But I was just saying that if Towers was looking for a package headlined by a big-time pitching prospect that is almost ready to contribute to the majors, then that doesnt seem like something the Yankees could have offered. Banuelos would have been perfect if he didnt go down with TJS.
