LaRoche is back with the Nats on a 2-year deal, making Morse available.......

Yankees are one of the teams apparently interested in Morse, but I guess so are those shrewd Rays.......Nats apparently are seeking LHRP (hello Boone Logan) and/or SP depth.

This deal needs to happen. Cashman has been hemming and hawing about wanting a RH-OF/DH for three months now. One just became available, and he won't affect the 2014 payroll plan.

I'm admittedly not too familiar with Morse, but looking at his stats he seems like a great fit. Gets on base, has some pop, OF/1B, etc.

Re: New York Yankees 2012-2013 Offseason Outlook
He is a bad defensive LF, RF, and 1B -- not as bad as Marcus Thames, but still pretty poor.
He can also play 3B and SS in an emergency, although I'd honestly expect them to use Cervelli there before him.
He makes a lot of contact, but he also swings and misses a lot. He has serious power, but has been somewhat injury prone.
He is kind of a poor man's Ryan Ludwick, if that means anything to you.SI: Do you have a secret ambition?

Re: New York Yankees 2012-2013 Offseason Outlook
Jim Callis' top 10 farm systems - his personal ranking, not BA's. Note Boston's ranking. Oh, how we've fallen...
(Yeah, I know, to some it's not legit or worthy of quoting unless the Yanks are ranked)
1. Cardinals
Loaded big league club awaits Oscar Taveras, Shelby Miller and Trevor Rosenthal.
2. Mariners
Their best prospects, even 2012 first-rounder Mike Zunino, have had Double-A success.
3. Marlins
Blockbuster trade with Blue Jays propelled this system from middle of the pack.
4. Rangers
No organization has more high-ceiling prospects, or one better than Jurickson Profar.
5. Red Sox
Help is on the way with Xander Bogaerts, Jackie Bradley, Matt Barnes and Allen Webster.
6. Rays
Dealing for Wil Myers and Jake Odorizzi helps to make up for recent lackluster drafts.
7. Twins
The best collection of bats in the minors, led by Byron Buxton and Miguel Sano.
8. Pirates
System isn't deep but has impressive trios of arms and bats that most can't match.
9. Diamondbacks
No. 6 on my list before subtracting Trevor Bauer and adding Didi Gregorius.
10. Astros
Rebuilding will take time, but trades and 2012 draft are steps in the right direction.

I think most knowledgeable Yankee fans understand our systems strength is not in AAA

I see, so you're one of the "knowledgeable" one's and I'm not because I posted Callis' picks. Interesting.
And you know that Callis isn't rating team's entire farm system how? Are players like Zunino, Brandley, Buxton, etc., etc., in AAA?
Please, if you're gonna defend (and knock others), come to the table prepared.

Re: New York Yankees 2012-2013 Offseason Outlook
Sorry for the misunderstanding. I think you may have misunderstood me as well.
I was just posting Callis' rankings, which includes team's entire farm system, not just AAA. Hence, he's considered all the lower minor league players you've mentioned and the Yanks still didn't make the cut.
Our minor league rankings have been taking a nosedive for a while and where we might differ is that I have little confidence in our farm system and player development and would have to agree with Callis, that we aren't a top 10.

Re: New York Yankees 2012-2013 Offseason Outlook
http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/w...eing-DH-010813There is a problem for any American League team that intends to acquire Nationals left fielder Mike Morse and use him often as a designated hitter.
Morse strongly opposes being a DH, according to major-league sources.
Then maybe don't be, you know, an average to below-average fielder?
