Re: New York Yankees 2012-2013 Offseason Outlook
With Jeter coming off the injury, and being another year older next year - - combined with ARod possibly having to turn in his glove for good....
Perhaps it is time to see if Jeter would do a Ripken, move to 3B, and sign say S Drew to take over at SS?

Maybe. Doubtful that the FO is going to go over a year, bargain or not. I also dont see a FA taking a 2 year deal at a bargain.
I think the FO's mo this offseason is to fix the team through trades, overpay on a year deal, or bargain bin. Possibly let the farm fill lesser roles.Fistpumping like a champion.

Re: New York Yankees 2012-2013 Offseason Outlook
I did not say a bargain. I said a relatively low price.
And I think you are wrong about the Yankees not doing any multi-year deals this winter. I would bet they do at least one multi-year deal, probably not for a star like Hamilton, but they would give Hairston two years if the price was right. And they would give the ex-Rays IFer a two year deal at the right price, and probably Drew as well. They can't be talking to Cody Ross without knowing that they would have to give him a multi-year pact.
The problem with Hairston is that he had a career year in 2012 and probably will get more than he is worth from some team. It is not that he will get two years.

Re: New York Yankees 2012-2013 Offseason Outlook
The two year deal for Scott Hairston story has been debunked for whatever that's worth. I doubt he gets a two year deal but crazier things have happened. Something tells me they're going to be in "wait and see" mode for anything significant on the outfield market. I doubt they make any moves there before the Winter Meetings end and aren't going to pick up someone who'll prevent them for making a move if a guy like Josh Hamilton's market completely evaporates or if they can swing a deal for Upton.
My guess is they'll patch up the infield and sign another starter to a mL deal before they get an outfielder (a returning fogey like Ichiro or Ibanez notwithstanding).

I wonder whether Hamilton would accept a 1 year deal for $30 million

Wouldn't mind seeing Grady Sizemore on a minor league contract. Could be a low risk, high reward player. His injury background is a bit scary tho.

Actually, he's already slated to miss substantial time in 2013:

The payroll thing....

NYY have been open to talks about Curtis Granderson. If they move his $15m salary, it would provide more flexibility to do other things.Goin for 2<strike>7</strike>8!

Re: New York Yankees 2012-2013 Offseason Outlook
He did, but he also finished poorly and teams seem to be leery of giving him a long term deal. If he doesn't find a long term deal to his liking, he may be inclined to take a one year deal at an elevated salary and re-enter free agency next winter.
It may not be the worst idea for Hamilton, who could potentially hit 50 HR playing in YS and further enhance his value as a FA for 2014."Glory is fleeting, but obscurity is forever." - Napoleon Bonaparte (1769-1821)

Josh Hamilton in NY? He has one relapse per year outside of NY. That guy in NY with all the temptations in Manhattan? I was sitting in the bleachers in the summer of 2009 when Texas was in town. The bleacher creatures started chanting "Rehab". Hamilton turned around gave them the finger.

Re: New York Yankees 2012-2013 Offseason Outlook
Exactly. This is becoming ridiculous. If they replace him with some aged veteran (only because that person is willing to take a one year deal) I'm going to become enraged. This team plays in New York and is a billion dollar organization. There is NO reason for them to act like they're the Royals.
