Koji Uehara would be a nice addition.

Certainly a decent little buy low option. I know we all hate the lefty specialists but Tim Byrdak will probably come relatively cheap, is a killer vs lefties and has been pretty durable throughout his career.

Not that I'm aware of. He's pretty dominant and knows the AL East well.

I like these guys coming to NY for one season and then choosing to either retire or play overseas if they aren't playing for the Yanks the very next year. It makes me warm and fuzzy inside.

I wish we could have A Rod on a similar year-to-year basis. That would make me feel warm and fuzzy.

Anyone else find the idea of a rotating OF of Granderson, Ichiro, Gardner and Torii Hunter kind of intriguing? You'd have four guys who'd be able to provide very good corner OF defense, two players who play a very good CF (and two who could at least play the position without embarrassing themselves), a big RHH bat to spell one of the three lefties, insurance in case one of them gets hurt, and at the very least an attractive trading chip at the deadline.

I think it's kind of an interesting idea. Solves the DH issue too; Hunter makes ~60 starts in the OF against LH starters, 50-60 at DH against RHP, and it still leaves close to 50 DH starts each for A-Rod and Jeter, which is probably more than they'll need anyway.

I kinda like it:

pros:
Hunter and Ichiro help address some of our BA deficiencies
Hunter as a pt-DH will help keep him fresh, given his age (37)

cons:
Hunter is likely due for a tank season after a great one last yr
depending on how much Hunter and Ichiro want, this could be expensive
Ichiro is likely due for a[nother] tank season after a short resurgence last August/Sept


all 4 hitters have flaws, but they also have good upside. Girardi would have a tough job balancing all 4 getting playing time, and I fear Gardner would end up the odd-man out, because he's the least veteran.

That would be.... wow. I'm really against signing relief pitchers this year but him on a one year deal with a team option... that would be magic.

Eli Whiteside seems like a kind of random pickup, mostly because he's not really an improvement on Stewart (he and Chris were the Giants' catchers in 2011 after Buster Posey went down). Think he'll mostly be used for trading later?

He'll be DFA in a few months, stored in Triple-A with Romine and be his backup. Nothing wrong with it, imo.

The Royals declined his option so he's a FA.

If the Royals had exercised his 2013 option at $8M, they would have kept the rights to a 2014 option valued at $8.75MM. If I'm Cashman I would offer a similar deal (maybe add another option year).

The Red Sox have shown interest in Torii Hunter, Rob Bradford of WEEI.com reports. Hunter, a free agent, has previously expressed interest in playing in Boston alongside David Ortiz.
"I'm open to anybody, especially if David is there," Hunter told WEEI.com in late August. "David is one of my guys. We were roommates in Minnesota and he's one of my brothers.”

Then this is a no brainer. Cash should definitely do it. But, here's a question, does Soria really want to be the 8th inning guy? He might go somewhere where he could get a guaranteed closer job for 2013.
