Re: New York Yankees 2012-2013 Offseason Outlook
Otani is not tall to the point you begin to worry about command issues related to size. Phil Hughes is 6'5. 6'2 to 6'4 is an ideal height for a pitcher. Betances is 6'8 and has a ................ delivery. Otani is well worth paying a 2-3 million bonus. He has been projected from a sandwich pick to a top 5 pick if he were in the draft. Just for reference he is an inch taller than Matt Cain & Felix Hernandez.

Re: New York Yankees 2012-2013 Offseason Outlook
Yes definitely. His suspension will likely make him a bargain in this free agent market. Even with a regression back to the norm he still looks to be a .300+ switch hitter in his late 20's that can play all three OF positions and who has no major weaknesses in his game. Say what you want about the PED use and the impact it may have, but looking at what a guy like Braun did this past year I wouldn't be too worried.

Re: New York Yankees 2012-2013 Offseason Outlook
Braun had 4 consistently excellent years before he was caught. Melky had 5 below average years, one very good year, and then an incredible year (during which he tested positive). While some of Melky's improvement may have been maturation, it's hard to look at his career arc and assume he is an above average player without PEDs

Some notes from Girardi's presser today. May provide some insight for y'all as to what to expect for the off-season.

Re: New York Yankees 2012-2013 Offseason Outlook
http://www.nypost.com/p/sports/more_...byCJw8QROJ1O/1The Giants were working hard to obtain Ichiro Suzuki before the Yankees did in late July and probably would have interest in the free agent this winter. But a person close to Ichiro told me he strongly wants to stay with the Yankees because he so enjoyed playing in a professional, winning atmosphere with so many contemporaries near his age range.
The friend said he can’t imagine money being a factor, noting that to make matters work when he wanted to be in Seattle, Ichiro deferred $5 million a year on his last long-term contract. The implication was that a one-year deal, perhaps with an option, in the $5 million-to-$8 million range might get it done.
But the Yankees still plan to build around lefty power, which makes it more difficult to shoehorn both Ichiro and Brett Gardner onto the roster unless the Yankees plan to downgrade Gardner to more of a fourth-outfielder type. Brian Cashman said yesterday, “We haven’t had our pro scouting meetings yet, when we do we will rank the available players and we will see where [Ichiro] ranks and how it fits once everyone starts engaging the market [in trades and free agency].”
The 1 year contract would fit the Yankees desire to have a $189M payroll in 2014.

Just wondering why no one is talking about going after David Ortiz. A 2 year deal would make a ton of sense for us.
Chuck Norris once took a piss in someone's gas tank. That car is known today as Optimus Prime.

Re: New York Yankees 2012-2013 Offseason Outlook
that is wildly optimistic. Unless he has some other elixir that can't be detected, I'd say the norm is going to be closer to what he was when he was here/ATL.
Not sure how .267 / .328 / .379 = no major weaknesses in his game.
Comparing Braun to Melky is a big stretch.
