wats the point of HFA if we open on the road ?

You could wind up down 0 - 2 playing for your life @ your first home game.

The divisional series were already scheduled before they added the second wild-card, so it was too late to add a day to allow for 2-2-1. Next year it will be the same schedule as in the past.

I think that was the AL and NL playoffs 1969-1984. Yankees-Royals 3 straight years of playing for your life.

Been trying to figure this out with how crazy the games are this week.

Yankees win tonight Baltimore plays the WC game on Friday.

Yankees lose + Balt. wins, Baltimore and Yanks have to play on tomorrow, loser plays Friday, and then they WC winner gets the first two games at home for the ALDS. So in this scenario the teams would blow through pitchers on two sudden death games, Thursday & Friday

Would Baltimore just throw tonights game, knowing they would get a day off and then only need to play one game on Friday and then get the first two games of the ALDS at home in Camden Yards.

Is this that crazy

Baltimore wants as many chances as they can to get in the ALDS. If they win and the Yankees lose, that gives them the AL East playoff, and if they lose that, the Wild Card playoff. So two chances to win one game. They wouldn't want to sacrifice the division playoff because winning the WC game isn't a given.

It would have been great had Yankees, O's, A's and Texas all had the same record and one game playoff would have been played on Thursday between Yanks and O's and Texas and A's. That would have been crazy.........

They said it was because there was no room for the extra travel day but in 2000 and 2001 the DS was 2-2-1 and there was only one travel day.

It would have been great had Yankees, O's, A's and Texas all had the same record and one game playoff would have been played on Thursday between Yanks and O's and Texas and A's. That would have been crazy.........

I kind of like it better the way things ended up.

Besides Texas and Oakland played what amounted to a one game playoff for the Division in game 162.
