    If we tie with Baltimore?

I may have missed this but I'll ask anyway...

If we tie Baltimore at the end of the season, do we have a one game playoff or are there tie breaker rules that decide like head to head etc?

    Thanks...

One game playoff. What I dont know is who would have HFA in this game.

I don't think we have to worry about this problem the way this team has been playing.

Baltimore would as a result of a better divisional record. The head to head is 9-9.

That game would be in Baltimore due to divisional record.

Let's take it further - if the Yankees, Orioles & Athletics all end up tied, the loser of the AL East playoff game would end up losing the HFA for the WC game, since the playoff game would qualify as a regular season game in the record.
Forgive me for taking the Contrarian view

The Yanks get to play the Red Sox for three games while the Orioles have to play the Rays. I'd say a tie for first is likely the worst case scenario for the Yanks.

    We're tied now. Again.

And the way things are going, we can only HOPE it's no worse than a tie come Wednesday.

And one step further, depending on the other division records, if yanks lost playoff to Baltimore then went to Oakland and won, they could then play Baltimore is best of 5...lol

The extra wildcard addressed the problem of teams not caring about winning the division. But, wow, there are a lot of unintended consequences associated with it. Not sure I like it overall.

Not even gonna entertain the idea of projecting this outcome. Last day of 2011 season... 7-0 lead (Proctor lol)..., same 4 teams this year, switched matches

It's hard to believe that this team had a 10 game lead at one point.
What we can appreciate now is that the Yankees from 1996-2003 were even more extraordinary than we thought.

The Orioles swept three games from the Rays earlier this month and they will miss Price in their series. Yankees face the three best Red Sox pitchers in their series.

Not to mention, and you can see this coming. The Sox have lost the last 2 games to the O's and will lose today. But the three games in the Bronx, they are going to treat them like games 5,6,7 of the World Series. They're going to come in after laying down for Baltimore and play us like the lives of their newborn kids depends on them taking 2 out of 3..

Someone needs to tell the red sox players if they do well in the Yankee series, Bobby will come back next year...

FWIW Pettitte would most likely start this game. CC on regular rest would go on Saturday 10/6.

I don't think Baltimore has even begun to sell tickets for this game. I looked all over, can't find a single thing suggesting they have.

Tickets for the potential tiebreaker game are included in the full post-season strip, but they don't actually charge for them unless the game is played. Their website also says there would be an email in late september regarding single games sales for the tiebreaker - no idea if that's actually happened, but there doesn't seem to be a mention of tiebreaker tickets anywhere else on the site.

Doubrant is better but the Orioles got to face Cook and Stewart. Dice K is better than those two pitchers. Yankees are going to have to sweep the Red Sox and it won't be easy against those three starters.

Yep. I fully expect the Red Sox to treat this series as their playoffs.

It shouldn't matter. They're absolutely terrible.

If we can't beat one of the worst teams in the AL and all of baseball, we don't deserve the division, SSS aside.

    Baseball is life;
    the rest is just details.
