Daily News: Jeter says he could see himself in another uniform
http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/ba...icle-1.1164394
As part of a 15-minute powwow last Friday before the Rays series, Reilly asked: "Peyton Manning changed teams this season after 14 seasons with one team. Could you see yourself doing that?"
"Well, if I wanted to keep playing, yes," Jeter replied. "It's a business. People forget that."27-Time World Champions

Re: Daily News: Jeter says he could see himself in another uniform
Its posturing and nothing else. Jeter does not want the contentiousness that the last negotiation brought.
Forgive me for taking the Contrarian view

Re: Daily News: Jeter says he could see himself in another uniform
Derek doesn't want to be "dissed" by the Yankees as George did to Pettitte a few years back. The game is a business and the Yankees better realize it. They need to sign Derek to a lifetime "personal services" contract.
Other teams out there would sign him in a second. Wouldn't it be amazing if the Mets went after him
I'd love it

Re: Daily News: Jeter says he could see himself in another uniform
OK - first... George, back then, was not a big fan of Pettitte (for some reason).
Second - George is pretty much dead.
Third, other teams would only sign Jeter if the price was right.
Four - Jeter is worth more to the Yankees than to any other franchise.
I wish mediots would stop with that BS line of questioning. It's just plain stupid.Welcome to NYYFans, the place where Yankees fans come together to complain about the manner in which our team is winning games.

Re: Daily News: Jeter says he could see himself in another uniform
Because like Jeter says it's a business. Like Cash said during Jeter's last contract negotiation Jeter is "just a baseball player". Both sides acknowledge this. It's something I never want to happen but considering age, skills, money, payroll, possible replacements, room in the lineup.... you have to let these things go. As unfortunate as it is. Jeter has the right to make a living to who will pay him. If the Yankees don't agree he's a good fit, well then I'll be rooting for another team along side the Yanks.

I actually wouldn't mind Jeter playing for another team for a season, it would be so weird seeing him in another uniform.

I want Jeter to retire as a Yankee but not if his demands are unreasonable.

BryanHoch Derek Jeter says suggestions that he wants to play elsewhere are "comical," and that he obviously wants to end career with the Yankees

Re: Daily News: Jeter says he could see himself in another uniform
Anybody who wonders why Jeter is so bland in interviews, take note. Even when he tries to keep it simple (but factual), idiots will overreact.

Re: Daily News: Jeter says he could see himself in another uniform
After a half day of thinking, I do think Jeter would look great in a New York Islanders jersey. Could see Wang signing him to a 15 year deal. I mean really, Jeter at least would be more productive than DiPietro.

Re: Daily News: Jeter says he could see himself in another uniform
I start to wonder about the intelligence of humans (these papers exist because people read them). If you read that interview, the ENTIRE POINT is that Reilly is attempting to get Jeter to answer some questions honestly, due to his tendency to just say nice cliches to avoid controversy
He makes one interesting point about players wanting to play until they are ready to retire, and it starts a controversy. He's never going to talk about this again
The irony is very large, but i guess not surprising

Re: Daily News: Jeter says he could see himself in another uniform
Much ado about nothing.
Jeter will retire a Yankee because the thought of playing elsewhere is something neither the player or the club will even entertain."Owning the Yankees is like owning the Mona Lisa." -- George M. Steinbrenner III

Re: Daily News: Jeter says he could see himself in another uniform
My understanding is that Steinbrenner had been trying to trade Pettitte since as far back as 1999. Then in the 2003 offseason, as the story goes, he was focusing all of his attention on personally negotiating with Gary Sheffield and ignoring Pettitte's requests to discuss what the Yankees were willing to do to keep him in New York. Eventually Pettitte gave up on getting an offer from the Yankees and signed with Houston.
I'm no insider and cannot vouch for the truth of the story. But that was the story."Baseball is about hope, not confidence." -- rajah

As usual the media loves sensationalizing headlines to garner attention. I read the original interview with Rick Reilly.
