    The 'new' Michael Kay?

is it just me, or has Kay changed his act? Several games ago, I noticed he is not constantly chattering when nothing is really going on. It's like his 'radio' call was switched off. There are quite a few quiet spots, even with Cone or O'Neill in the booth. Has married life calmed him down a bit? Maybe watching the Yankee Replay's in the morning before he's working showed him that he was a bit... 'annoying' sometimes? It isn't perfect, because once in awhile. he'll get on a roll with something and the old Kay is back for a bit. But then he will tone it down again and it's nice and calm and quiet again.

That extra hour of him on 1050 must be killing him.

I heard him reciting a Haiku when he didn't think they were back from commercial break as yet.

Whatever is working for him, I like this new Michael Kay... he even apologizes when he makes an error in his play by play. I saw him greeting someone at the stadium and he looks fantastic - lost a lot of weight. Hey, maybe his wife Jodi is a calming and healthy influence. He even said something about having a good wife when CC's wife made him tell about his elbow issue.

Or it may be she is the first person to have the courage to provide him some critical feedback--and she has the background to do it. The surprise will be if he really does change. The haiku is certainly evidence of a major sea change. Perhaps he will do PbP in iambic pentameter.

He brought back his incredibly annoying manageable/unmanageable time-of-the-game crap on the postgame wrapup.

What is up with this "7-11, Really convenient!!!!" shtick if a pitcher has a 7-11 record or a team has 7 runs on 11 hits? Is he getting something on the side from them for doing that?

He probably told his wife she was in labor for an unmanageable amount of time.

After 7 hours of labor he told his wife to "Get up and Stretch"

After 9 hours, he shouted "Bonus Cantos"

At the time of birth, he uttered "She works into and out of trouble"

Hate to hear him call the conception. Up the middle. Deep drive. SEE YA!. A home run for Mr Johnson. Kay scores.

Maybe someone in the front office ripped into him after he stated the 2010 ALCS was "over" after Game 1. Or maybe married life has mellowed him out some. No matter the reason, I'm happy.

    Re: The 'new' Michael Kay?

Well folks, he's going to be around for several more years:
    http://www.yesnetwork.com/news/artic...nt_id=41215880
NEW YORK, January 28, 2013 – Michael Kay, whose voice has been synonymous with the YES Network since its launch in 2002, has signed a multi-year extension with the network to remain its lead New York Yankees play-by-play voice. Kay, who has earned 21 Emmy nominations and 3 Emmy wins while at YES, will also continue hosting YES’ award-winning CenterStage with Michael Kay show, along with other shows and specials on the network.

“We are pleased that Michael will continue to play a vital role here at YES,” said John J. Filippelli, president of production and programming at the YES Network. “For the past decade on YES, Michael has been the voice of the Yankees, deftly capturing the drama, intensity and passion associated with the greatest franchise in sports. He is one of the preeminent play-by-play announcers in baseball and is a first-rate interviewer as well, as evidenced by his stellar work on CenterStage.”

“I really could not be happier,” said Kay. “Continuing to live a childhood dream as the TV voice of the Yankees while working with the best group of people in the business on the country's best regional sports network is as good as it gets. I can't wait to start another season.”
BTW, the Kay/Applegate baby finally has a name:
Kay and his wife Jodi Applegate have a daughter, Caledonia Rose Kay, born earlier this month.
