Re: Roger Clemens to make return to baseball
The thought formed in my mind before I finished reading the first sentence explaining the news, so yeah I can definitely imagine the comeback being all about the HOF voting timetable.
I have always felt that the HOF fates for Roger Clemens and Barry Bonds will be linked. One hitter, one pitcher; one AL, one NL; one black, one white. Both with HOF credentials before they started using; both not only prolonging their careers but setting records while doing it; both stubborn in their refusal to acknowledge truths readily apparent to even the most casual observer.

Re: Roger Clemens to make return to baseball
There used to be a funny video on Youtube where an old Clemens
walks into the Yankees GM office and demands a contract.
Also had a funny bit, concerning George Steinbrenner, which now seems
kind of sad. Wonder if it's still in circulation .....

Re: Roger Clemens to make return to baseball
really bet this is an attempt to get back into the majors
The real reason why the Yankees keep winning is cause the other team can't stop staring at the damn pinstripes

Re: Roger Clemens to make return to baseball
That's funny. Only the 'Stros could've lost 2 of 3 to the Mets recently.
If Clemens can't go 6-7 innings against a bunch of fellow has-beens (or never-weres), then I do hope that Houston's bullpen is ready for a serious workout next month.
Now we need to avoid telling Suzyn and Piazza.

"I can tell you right now -- and they would know, too -- that if I was going
to go do it, I am going to pitch against a contender, that's who I want to knock
out," Clemens said. "Why would I want to waste my time running around and
getting in shape. I get over to Minute Maid [Park], I'll crank it up and
get it over 90 for a contender. We'll knock them right out of the
playoffs. That would be the fun. Pitching against somebody that's not
in contention wouldn't be any fun for me."

Re: Roger Clemens to make return to baseball
In his first two starts, he was in the high-80s. I wouldn't be surprised if he touched 90 in short relief.

I can just picture his first day
"Welcome back Roger, first things first you've been "randomly" selected for a drug test."
"OK well I appeal the results "
"Buy sir you haven't even urinated yet."

Re: Roger Clemens to make return to baseball
I think he's going to pitch for Houston at least once this season, and it wouldn't surprise me if he pitches well. The question is, if he does do well in 1 start, does that open the door for him to try to pitch a full season next year?

Re: Roger Clemens to make return to baseball
I bet he'll pitch in the last game of the season. He says he doesn't care about the HOF, but he's clearly lying.....he wants to delay the clock....and Houston's team is a joke anyway
With them moving to the AL next year I don't see Roger having any interest in coming back for a full season, nor should he. He'll pitch a few innings for the Astros, delay the HOF clock, and call it a career.

Welcome to NYYFans, the place where Yankees fans come together to complain about the manner in which our team is winning games.
