Re: Roger Clemens to make return to baseball
Here is how big of a joke the Astros are..
http://mlb.sbnation.com/2012/8/20/32...f-fame-ballotsRoger Clemens is slated to pitch for the Houston-area Sugar Land Skeeters next weekend.
Clemens' rotation-mates will include ex-MLBers Scott Kazmir, Tim Redding and pitcher-outfielder Jason Lane. Rumors around Houston suggest that whichever of those four looks the best over the next two weeks will get a shot with the fightin' Astros in September. And if it's Clemens, his Hall of Fame eligibility will be delayed until (at least!) 2018.

Re: Roger Clemens to make return to baseball
Well looks like Roger is looking to push his eligibility back 5 years in the hopes that voters will soften their stance on known-users over time

Re: Roger Clemens to make return to baseball
I was going to post this in "Interesting Baseball News Items that Do Not Warrant Their Own Thread" ... but maybe it does!

Anyway, here's a quote from Girardi:
http://yankees.lhblogs.com/2012/08/2...ist-felt-good/
• The Associated Press reported today that Roger Clemens has signed to play with the Sugar Land (Texas) Skeeters of the independent Atlantic League and is expected to start for the team on Saturday. His agent told the AP that Clemens’ fastball is at 87 mph. “Guys love to play,” Girardi said. “It’s in our blood. If he still feels he can play and pitch and enjoys it, I know it’s not at the big league level, but God bless him.”

Re: Roger Clemens to make return to baseball
Rickey Henderson played Minor League ball after his last Major League game and it did not affect his eligibility.
Personally I think it is absurd for a 50 year old to be pitching in professional baseball. Of course it may mean I still have a chance at 55
.
It reminds me of a radio interview with hockey great Gordie Howe, who came out of retirement to play with his sons and was still going at 50. The interviewer asked Howe when he will retire. Howe responded "When I'm eligible for Social Security"

Re: Roger Clemens to make return to baseball
surely Clemens can pitch for the Astros
they're basically a minor league team anyway, why not?
I'm rooting for the Rocket to make it back to the bigs at age 50, how cool would that be?

Oh the things I would do to see Clemens make a fool of himself as a September call-up/signing for the Astros in a few weeks.

Wouldn't it be funny if Roger tested positive from this return.
