For the record, it is indeed Derek Lowe, and he's expected to work out of the pen. Presumably he will fill the gaping hole left behind when Chad Qualls departed.

At least I don't hate Lowe on a level I did Ponson. And if they are going to use Lowe only out of the pen in long relief I don't have a problem with the pickup. If they use him to setup or start though instead of low leverage or last man in the pen thing, I won't be happy.

Phelps isn't stretched out and probably will be limited to 50 pitches...Rangers strategy will be to just get into deep counts with Phelps til we throw in Lowe. Only good thing about Lowe is he is a ground ball pitcher that's about it

People need to calm down. Derek Lowe will be an ex-Yankee on August 23. This is for two starts only. Is he a bad pitcher? Yes. Does this mean we are doomed? Hardly.

If that playoff experienced bullpen arm is used in high leverage situations and ultimately finds himself on the postseason roster due to that experience, then yes, there's the possibility of harm.

Second game- 6.1 IP, 2 hits, 3 R (2 ER)-- team loses 3-2.

So 11.2 IP, 6 H, 3 ER, two L's on his post-season record.
