We picked up Lowe
With cc back on the dl, this was a good move that cost us nothing but the remainder of his salary.

Re: We picked up Lowe
As long as we can keep him from drinking, this should work.
Oh man....

Re: We picked up Lowe
Got his autograph in "99" at a spring training game down here in FM, Flo.
I was reading "Andy Kaufman Revealed", by Bob Zmuda while standing in line for 4 hours to get tickets for the game against the Yanksters.
They set up a table where he was sitting.
I had a nice chat with him and he kept saying, "Are you sure you want me to sign this book?"
I'm tellin' him sure, Andy would have loved it.

Re: We picked up Lowe
Cashman pulled a Lowe blow on Yankee fans - he's garbage.
Would rather have seen someone like Ramon Ortiz called up if they didn't think Phelps was ready to step in to the rotation."Glory is fleeting, but obscurity is forever." - Napoleon Bonaparte (1769-1821)

3.1 SO/9, 3.9 BB/9, 70 ERA+, 1.7 WHIP. 5.52 ERA

Re: We picked up Lowe
Cashman is just as obsessed with has-been, washed-up ex Sox players as George was with ex Mets, only George was slightly more successful in this area.

Re: We picked up Lowe
I guess Lowe is this year's Mitre or Ponson. Since June 1 he has an 8.77 ERA, more walks than strikeouts and a slash line of .350/.418/.502.

Re: We picked up Lowe
I really wish we had gotten a pitcher at the deadline. Our rotation always seems so thin and fragile.
As usual, we find ourselves in our annual "throw stuff against the wall and hope it sticks" mode.

Re: We picked up Lowe
Phelps is starting Monday..which is odd considering he hasn't been stretched out. Gonna laugh if it's one of 3-4 inning "starts" where he's limited to 50-60 pitches.

Re: We picked up Lowe
More than an hour and 21 posts into this thread, and we still haven't got a link, or a first name?

For the record, it is indeed Derek Lowe, and he's expected to work out of the pen. Presumably he will fill the gaping hole left behind when Chad Qualls departed.

Almost as good as when we picked up Ponson.

the rest is just details.
