I don't want to keep this going off topic, but do you not realize the inherent contradiction in saying the heart of a Yankee team that won 3 straight championships doesn't deserve to have his number retired?........that makes no sense at all

    3 straight pennants. Two championships.

This blog post infers “addition by subtraction” with regard to the Ichiro trade...

I don’t have any inside info to know if there is any truth to the notion but, even some reporters (who actually know what it’s like in the clubhouse) have a similar opinion - like this one, who is a bit more direct...

7-2 may have as much to do with playing a a free falling KC club and a slumping Blue Jay squad as it does with addition by subtraction wrt to Ichiro.

Though it was pretty clear Ichiro was not thrilled with perenial last place finishes the past few years so maybe he wasn't exactly givining it his all this year.

Have the Mariners actually reached out to the Red Sox for guidance on how to treat a former beloved superstar or are they doing this on their own?
I'm frantic... Jeter Ceremony Date - when will this be announced????

    Thank goodness we now know.

I don't think the author was referring to just this year ... he referenced things from his entire career with the M's...
Again, I'm not saying that the M's recent success has any direct correlation but, the two articles I linked are far from the minority opinion in Seattle that Ichiro has always been about himself and his numbers more than about team success...

    In regards to departed players:

Mariner fans & press = Red Sox fans & press.

I'm not disputing their claims, but M's fans and press were silent or argumentative to the extreme when those issues concerning Ichiro were pointed out while he was with the team.

You must have heard from different fans and press than I did

Seattle fans and media had questioned Ichiro's value to the team for at least two years ...

... and yet showed Ichiro the respect he deserved in his first at-bat as a Yankee at Safeco Field.

Mariner fans generally revere the team's former stars with the exception of Alex Rodriguez (whom I like more than most Seattle fans do).

OT, but can anyone explain to me why the fans in Oakland booed Eric Chavez?

Beacuse management decided to give him the huge contract and let Giambi & Tejada walk and Chavez gave them mostly injury riddled play a playoff disappointment. My brother's a big A's fan and can't stand Chavez.

Well...................he had one of the Yankees two hits today...................and is rolling along, a tidy little hitting streak.
Has gotten on base in every game he has played for the Yankees. Nice.

I suppose it depends on what you're looking for. .256/.273/.349 since joining the Yankees.

I can stand these numbers from a #8 hitter providing us decent OF defense.

I'd call him "solid" in the sense that he's a definite upgrade over DeWayne Wise.

Yeah. I'm still loving this trade. And, if he heats up more, we can sign him to a one year deal so Swish can walk.

You can stand a .273 OBP? His defense is an upgrade over Swisher, but that's it. He's a full-time utility player.

Seriously. If people can accept numbers like this...then their standards of acceptance are sure falling downward. Ichiro's a platoon player at this point who really should not be facing LHP.

I'm afraid something like this might actually happen. It's a horrible idea.
