    Yankees acquire Ichiro from Mariners

As per Jack Curry and RAB.

@JackCurryYES: The Yankees have acquired Ichiro for DJ Mitchell and Danny Fahrquar, a source said. Yanks also get cash in deal

The Yankees also save the travel costs to have him meet up with the team.

Numark, it's legit. The Mariners think he is on the decline and didn't want to pay him his salary the next three years. Love the move by the Yankees!

I understand the logic behind it, i just viewed him as one of the few players that are attached to a team no matter what. He is on the decline but still a great player and this is a great trade for us

He had an 86 OPS+ last year and an 83 OPS+ this year. Yikes. He has 3 years left on his contract?

The cost was ridiculously minimal. I love the trade for that alone.

He is on the decline but considering who they gave up, that's a steal.

Ichiro waived his 10 and 5 rights and asked to be dealt to the Yankees? Also, tell me Cashman sent Pineda back for Noesi and Montero?

Ichiro is seriously declining but I still cant fault this trade.

I love baseball in general and the Yankees just happen to be my favorite team since I knew what baseball was.

i just got here, am on my cell phone. What # does he wear? I know he's not wearing #51. I also presume that only his t-shirts will have his first name on it.

That said, couldn't we have unloaded Kei Igawa on the M's?

I haven't heard his name in years, yikes.

The fact that we traded for Ichiro the day we started a series with the M's in Seattle is one thing. But for him to hit a single the first pitch he sees, steal second, and catch the final out of the game, that's way too story book for its own good.

    Jack Curry ‏@JackCurryYES

Very interesting strike by Cashman to bring Ichiro to NY. Adds the outfield depth the Yanks were seeking and at modest price.

Aside from the shocking news, he's pretty much crap these days and has been for a couple of years. Still, someone we can use this year...and for nothing.

He's league average against righties, garbage against lefties, but still has plus defense and speed.

Maybe the change of scenery and a playoff run will invigorate him somehow.

My concern is if Cashman considers him a replacement for Swisher in 2013.

    e. Nevermind. Ichiro's a FA after this year

Why would the Mariners want DJ Mitchell? Don't they need some hitting prospects at this point?

Noone takes them because Yankee fans boo whoever tries to. Remember Hawkins? Nobody should go thru that crap over a number.

Re: Yankees acquire Ichiro from Mariners

Until Alex Rodriguez goes on the disabled list today, 20 percent of the Yankees' current 25-man roster is filled with former Mariners who played in a combined 40 seasons in Seattle.

Rodriguez, Ichiro Suzuki and Freddy Garcia were All Stars with the Mariners while Raul Ibanez and Rafael Soriano made All Star appearances after leaving Seattle.

The Mariners traded Garcia (and Ben Davis) to the White Sox in 2004 for Mike Morse, Miguel Olivo and Jeremy Reed; Soriano to the Braves in 2006 for Horacio Ramirez; and Ichiro to the Yankees this week for Danny Farquhar and D.J. Mitchell.

The M's drafted Michael Garciaparra and Rene Rivera with compensatory picks in 2001 after Rodriguez departed though free agency and Nick Franklin and Steven Baron with compensatory picks in 2009 after Ibanez left via free agency.
