They're saying he released tear gas either probably to injure and provide a smoke screen too. Plus there's the unspoken connection to Bane wearing what essentially looks like a gas mask.

I have tickets to a showing later today and I'm nervous about it. I know the odds are ridiculously small of something like this happening twice, but it still gives you pause. I think (and hope) that there's a bigger police presence at the mall today in reaction to this tragedy.

BREAKING: NBC just said the shooter's name is James Holmes, born in 1987. No explosives found in his car or house. Came to the scene with a semi-auto rifle, shotgun and 2 pistols.

If that's the case, I'm kind of wondering if that might be the exact theater I saw The Dark Knight in. Since it was four years ago I don't remember exactly, but I think it was the last night of the vacation when we were flying out the next morning. Eek.

The suspect, James Holmes, 24, of Aurora, was caught by police in the parking lot of the Century 16 Movie Theaters, nine miles outside Denver, after police began receiving dozens of 911 calls at 12:39 a.m. MT. Police said the man appeared to have acted alone.

Witnesses in the movie theater said Holmes crashed into the auditorium through an emergency exit about 30 minutes into the film, set off a smoke bomb, and began shooting. Holmes stalked the aisles of the theater, shooting at random, as panicked movie-watchers in the packed auditorium tried to escape, witnesses said.

Police said 10 victims died inside the theater, while dozens of others were taken to local hospitals, including a child as young as 6 years old.

Holmes was wearing a bullet-proof vest and riot helmet and carrying a gas mask, rifle, and handgun, when he was apprehended, according to police. Holmes mentioned having explosives stored, leading police to evacuate his entire North Aurora apartment complex and search the buildings early this morning.

Hundreds of police and FBI agents are involved in the investigation. A senior official who is monitoring the situation in Washington said that early guidance based on the early snapshot of this man's background indicated that this act does not appear to be linked to radical terrorism or anything related to Islamic terrorism.

Since he did not take his own life, I assume he will tell police why he decided this had to be done. Prayers go out to all those who lost loved ones as well as everyone who had to endure this nightmare.

Here's a map. Looks like it's more in the town area, on Alameda (one of the main drags through Denver). I believe there are other movie theaters along 70 that are kind of more accessible to DEN.

The shooter was a sick individual and I hope they put him somewhere where he gets what's coming to him.

As for the apartment being booby trapped, the shooter apparently told the police this so they are being extremely cautious.

I mean, sure it's poor parenting to have your 3 month old at a movie theater at midnight, but disgust seems a bit harsh. It's not like they brought the baby somewhere that you would expect you were putting them in danger. Despite their strange decision, I feel horrible for them more than anything else.
