RIP Andy Griffith
I figure this one deserves a thread.

Andy Griffith, a television legend who starred in two iconic series that debuted a quarter-century apart, has died. He was 86.
Bill Friday, former UNC president and a close friend of Andy Griffith confirmed to North Carolina NBC affiliate WITN-TV that he died this morning. The death has not been independently confirmed by NBC News.

Re: RIP Andy Griffith
Another part of my childhood slips away. I still watch the black and white reruns. He was a very talented man. If you want a good laugh, listen to his "What It Was, Was Football" routine. It's a description given by someone who's never seen the sport before. Great stuff.

Re: RIP Andy Griffith
I posted in the catch-all obit yesterday about the death of Doug Dillard last May, whose group "the Dillards" appeared on the Andy Griffith Show as "the Darlings", and I thought of Andy Griffin and said to myself he seems like he is going on forever. I guess not. We all have a death to pay in this life.
Anyway, a nice obit piece written about the successes and failings of an American icon - http://www.newsobserver.com/2012/07/...-griffith.htmlLast edited by fredgmuggs; 07-03-12 at 02:33 PM.

I would have guessed he was older than that. In any case, I was never a fan of the show.

Re: RIP Andy Griffith
I've always considered that show a classic. Mayberry RFD was a very idealized version of home-town goodness in Smalltown USA. RIP, Andy Taylor, you were a very good man, along with Goober, Aunt B, that nutty Deputy Barney Fife, and his son, Opie.

Who better to give a sendoff than Opie?
