Re: 2012 International Free Agent Thread
Rijo signed with the Red Sox for the same amount 625K, the Yankees signed their SS.
Edit: The Yankees signed their SS prospect for 25K more.
The Yankees have signed Dominican shortstop Yancarlos Baez for $650,000, according to the Dominican Prospect League.
Baez, 16, has a projectable frame at 6-foot-2, 165 pounds with above-average speed. He's an athletic switch-hitter with good bat speed who could have an average hit tool, with gap power now. Baez is from San Cristobal and trained with Josue Mateo. It's all Cashman's fault!

Re: 2012 International Free Agent Thread
Do you have any updates on Juan Carlos Paniagua as we get closer to July 19th? Are the Cubs linked to any other IFAs?
Ben Badler: The velocity is down, but the slider has improved. If I had to bet, I'd say he's the Cubs' priority guy now that Frandy de la Rosa has signed.

Re: 2012 International Free Agent Thread
You could bet your sweet ass if that was the Yankees, the contract would be voided. What a load of BS. MLB needs to apply their rulings equally against every ballclub.

Re: 2012 International Free Agent Thread
I am pretty happy with the Yankees' haul this year.
"The Yankees have already signed Venezuelan catcher Luis Torrens ($1.3 million), Venezuelan outfielder Alexander Palma ($800,000) and Dominican shortstop Yancarlos Baez ($650,000), so the McCoy signing puts them at exactly $2.9 million between those four players. Unless the Yankees decide to dramatically exceed their bonus pool and pay a heavy penalty, the McCoy signing may be the last significant international amateur deal for the Yankees until July 2, 2013."

Re: 2012 International Free Agent Thread
one thing that's great about the Yanks in IFA. they always find some gems for a little nothing(considering how much they spend and their resources)
the big ones that we signed early are nice and will hopefully fill the system with some top end talent for the big league club in the future. but the bargain signings are important too.

Re: 2012 International Free Agent Thread
Glad his deal feel apart.
What did evaluators have to say about Michael Ynoa?
Aaron Fitt: Nobody was particularly impressed with Ynoa, who stood out most for his lack of competitiveness and energy on the mound (that's never a good sign). He still has arm strength -- he ran his fastball up to 95 mph, though his comfort zone was more 90-91 mph, and it is pretty straight. He also struggles to command his fastball and his breaking ball, which sometimes has late action and tight rotation, but other times simply does not. And his changeup is very underdeveloped -- he can't even throw it for strikes, let alone get hitters out with it. It is fair to say Ynoa did nothing this summer to restore any of his fading prospect status.

Re: 2012 International Free Agent Thread
i know what you meant. i was pointing out that it will require the handlers to be a little less greedy for the system to thrive. we all know some idiot is going to try to get a 2.5 mil bonus for his player, which would screw the pot for the other potential prospects because it would lessen the money to go around and they would have to accept a lesser deal to sign(which rarely happens unless the relation between the trainer and club is really strong)
