Re: Summer Olympics Basketball Thread - London 2012
After looking at those 16 finalists, these are my final picks for Jerry Colangelo and Coach K.
Starting Five
C: Kevin Love
PF: Lebron James
SF: Kevin Durant
SG: Kobe Bryant
PG: Chris Paul
Bench: Deron Williams, Anthony Davis, Andre Iguodala, Rudy Gay, Tyson Chandler, Carmelo Anthony, Russell Westbrook.
Why? I chose Anthony Davis and Andre Iguodala for their defense especially on the perimeter. Russell Westbrook for his hustle and energy and has international experience. Deron Williams and Carmelo Anthony from the Redeem Team. Tyson Chandler is needed for size and the injuries to the likes of Dwight Howard and Chris Bosh.
Very tough choice between Rudy Gay, James Harden and Eric Gordon and I can live with either one of the three on the team.
I left out Blake Griffin because despite being 6'10" and can rebound, he's needs to improve his free throw shooting, jumpers, 1 v. 1 game and his defense. He's only 23 and has lots of time to play for the U.S. team down the road. Unless I see Davis's sprained ankle worsen, Griffin is left out. It's not the 27 World Championships that drive the New York Yankees. It's the 28th.

Re: Summer Olympics Basketball Thread - London 2012
I agree with your roster and lineups. Definetly agree w/leaving Griffin off the team. Anthony Davis can help the team more. We need a shot blocking defensive presence down low.

Re: Summer Olympics Basketball Thread - London 2012
With Anthony Davis's wingspan, the U.S. has that. Blake Griffin is still very green.
Like I said, the only tough choice I had is between Rudy Gay, Eric Gordon and James Harden. Gay and Gordon were very good in the 2010 FIBA World Championships in Turkey and can shoot. Harden can flat out shoot as well despite having no experience in the senior U.S. squad. It's not the 27 World Championships that drive the New York Yankees. It's the 28th.

The 2012 US Olympic Men's Basketball Team - London 2012
http://espn.go.com/olympics/summer/2...er-sources-say
After looking at that roster, here are my pros and cons for this team going to London 2012.Guards
Kobe Bryant, Los Angeles Lakers
James Harden, Oklahoma City Thunder
Chris Paul, Los Angeles Clippers
Russell Westbrook, Oklahoma City Thunder
Deron Williams, Brooklyn Nets
Forwards
Carmelo Anthony, New York Knicks
Kevin Durant, Oklahoma City Thunder
Blake Griffin, Los Angeles Clippers
Andre Iguodala, Philadelphia 76ers
LeBron James, Miami Heat
Kevin Love, Minnesota Timberwolves
Center
Tyson Chandler, New York Knicks
Pros: Speed, players who can play multiple positions (i.e. LeBron James, Kevin Durant and Andre Iguodala) and shooters coming off the bench like James Harden.
Cons: Egos, overconfidence and Blake Griffin's game outside of his explosive athleticism to the rim.
My keys for the U.S. men: check egos and overconfidence at the door and Griffin needs to shoot 70% from the line and have balance on field goals. It's not the 27 World Championships that drive the New York Yankees. It's the 28th.

Re: Summer Olympics Basketball Thread - London 2012
Totally agree with you Kobe Bryant:
http://espn.go.com/olympics/summer/2...pt-stupid-idea
I totally disagree with David Stern's idea of using U-23 teams for future Olympic Basketball tournaments.
Every NBA player who has a dream of representing their country in the Olympics should go.
I didn't see Kobe having an Olympic hangover when he won a gold medal with the 'Redeem Team' in Beijing and winning a NBA title in the 2008-09 season.
Assuming Stern requests an age limit on the Olympic basketball tournament like soccer and the U.S. fails to adapt to that system and win gold medals, then Stern will be calling back for their best pro players to compete in the Olympics again.
Memo to David J. Stern: KEEP IT THE WAY IT IS!It's not the 27 World Championships that drive the New York Yankees. It's the 28th.

A good start for the U.S. men's team with a 98-71 victory over France despite France trailing 22-21 after the first quarter.
Oklahoma City Thunder forward Kevin Durant had 22 points and 9 rebounds including 7/7 from the free-throw line as the Americans shot 73.7% from the charity stripe.
The U.S. defense also neutralized France as the French shot 39.4% from the field including 2/22 from 3-point land.
San Antonio Spurs guard Tony Parker had 10 points, but only one assist and had four of France's 18 turnovers. It's not the 27 World Championships that drive the New York Yankees. It's the 28th.
