Not unless they trade Schenn or/and Coutuier
NHL source: Flyers unwilling to part so far with either Brayden Schenn or Sean Couturier, the two players teams with available studs want.

Jordan Staal to Carolina for Brandon Sutter, Brian Doumolin and the 8th overall pick.
Killer return for a guy who made it clear he wanted no part of being in Pittsburgh. Ugh.

^ The double whammy is he likely will sign a contract with them. Which means no shot we get him next summer.

Re: Official NHL 2012-2013 Thread
^ lmao for sure. You have to figure they thought one of the 2 goalies would be there going into the draft. Matteau probably tops out as a 3rd liner.
These drafts suck when you're picking as late as the Rangers did but some stuff went down early so it was easy to stay entertained.

Re: Official NHL 2012-2013 Thread
He doesn't have one stand out skill and to be honest, hes not a very intelligent player.
He'll muck, grind and do good work on the boards, but hes also pretty reckless and is prone to taking bad penalties. Sounds a lot like Steve Bernier to me.
Red line had him ranked in the second half of the second round and says that hes a "one trick pony." I won't pretend that their opinion holds more water than the scouting staff of an NHL team, but they're by far the most reputable scouting service out there since they employ real scouts.
Hes not a bad pick though. I'm convinced the Devils were hoping for one of the goalies and since they both got taken, they went with who they felt was the best player available. Hes a safe pick, he fits in with what the Devils do, but hes a real long shot to become a top six forward.

Can anyone give me some info on the Isles first round pick. Was it a good choice?

Re: Official NHL 2012-2013 Thread
You can never assess these drafts until a few years later, but the Habs have hit this one out of the park on paper. They covered everything: size, skill, speed, toughness and leadership.
Dalton Thrower was a steal. He is everything that is right about the sport of hockey, the anti PK Subban.
Would not be at all shocked if they ended up with 4-5 regular NHL'ers out of his draft. Well done by the Habs staff.

Personally, I think both Riley and Trouba are better now and will be in the future but Reinhart is one of those guys who doesn't really "wow" you with any aspect of his game, but the more you watch him, the more you appreciate what he brings to the table.
Hes a good player and a good pick for the Islanders and you can more than justify taking him over Trouba, but I think Riley was the guy they should have taken.

Re: Official NHL 2012-2013 Thread
I have a question for all of you.
Which team(s) do you think have their window of opportunity of winning a Stanley Cup is completely shut or close to being shut and need to rebuild?
I think my local team, the San Jose Sharks is one of them.
I also think the Vancouver Canucks need to rebuild too. It's not the 27 World Championships that drive the New York Yankees. It's the 28th.
