Yeah, I can't see why the Yankees would be shopping actively for a starter right now. I could see them trying to upgrade at 4th/5th outfielder and IF utility belt, but that's about it.

I wouldn't mind Garza, but what would it cost to get him here? You know Theo will want to tax the Cashman big time.

Why? he's not with the Red Sox anymore. I could see him wanting more to deal with STL, MIL or some other central teams but after that it would be what is the best deal for the Cubs.

That said I'd guess Garza would cost at least 2 decent prospects (think 10 top from the dealing org) plus 1 to 2 lower level prospects no matter who the Cubs shop him too. Otherwise they just keep him for next year or shop him in the off season. and I think the Cubs want young pitching more than young hitting.

Gun to my head, I'd go with Garza. To that point and FWIW (2012 xFIP):
    Garza: 3.50
    Dempster: 3.68

But as others have already noted, who gets bumped from the rotation to make room? Barring an injury, I doubt we're seriously in on either of these guys.

    away: .267/.320/.437

He's not the same player away from Coors field and you know they'll ask for a return in line with the home splits, and you'll likely be getting a player with closer to the road splits..

    Re: Dempster or Garza? (mod)

Title of thread has been changed. Anyone who has amassed 100 career wins and thrown 200+ innings the past four seasons deserves better than to have his name made the butt end of a lame joke. Let's face it: most people aren't as good at their chosen professions as Dempster is at his.

    Ryan Dempster - S - Cubs

Cubs placed RHP Ryan Dempster on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to June 16, with right lat tightness.

Unfortunate timing all around. Dempster hasn't allowed a run in three straight starts and currently has a 2.11 ERA and 66/22 K/BB ratio over 81 innings this season. The Cubs are saying it's not considered serious, but the veteran right-hander will have to prove his health to interested suitors leading up to the trade deadline.
