I think he got more than that, but BA hasn't updated the number.

BA does not have Diaz as signed. I guess they are a bit slow in bringing their site up to date.

they probably won't list him as signed due to the 2013 contract. still not sure how the hell they can sign him to that and not do so for other draftees.

The 32nd pick 997, Garrett Cannizaro shortstop from Tulane is a senior. Can he still be sign?

Hensley is now saying he'll make his pro debut on July 30th, his 19th birthday.

If you look at the BA & RAB numbers, you have to believe they did quite well with their signings.

To be honest, I don't think they've been updated with those late signings except Hensley.

So the question is if indeed they had $600K+ left to play w/before getting hit w/the 5% surcharge/tax, did the Yankees make one last play for Jackson &/or Moore & get turned down by each, or were they told not to bother by both of them beforehand because both of these two wanted much more dough than was there at the end? For me, Jackson &/or Moore are the one(s) that got away.

Oh, I just want to add I was really happy w/our draft & the guys we did get signed. I just thought both Jackson & Moore (& Stewart for that matter) were really special, Moore because he's already a real good baseball player, & Jackson because of all the upside & potential he possesses if developed properly. You can't always get what you want . . .

There will always be ones that got away, but the Yankees didn't have enough left in their draft allotment to get both guys. Furthermore, they only had 406K left before the 5 percent surcharge so they probably didn't have enough left to get one of them.

they tried, K Levine-Flandrup stated before the deadline that they were still trying with Jackson and Moore but it wasn't likely.
Moore had said after the draft he was leaning towards college so it was always going to take a lot to get him. he played on the Yanks scout team but despite that "in" it was going to be a longshot.

Jackson was pretty much going to college unless they blew him away with a offer.
he stated after the draft that he and his family had already made a decision and that the draft really didn't change it. it was always thought that he was heading to Tennessee without a huge offer.
smarter for them to gamble on college and potentially get drafted higher in 3 years + they get the college education.

more than likely it would have taken at least Austin Jackson money for each to sign.
too much potential in both and they didn't have a burning desire to be a Yankee right now like some others who signed kinda on the cheap. not knocking them either, just saying if they would have come in under a certain number the Yanks probably would have signed them.

I think the answer is more than Jackson money, because they would have some not signed some other guys, if they could have landed one of them.

With their limited draft slot money due to not having multiple picks in the early rounds like a Toronto, it would definitely be a "borrow from Peter to pay Paul" scenario. That's fine to do if you're really convinced that prospect is going to make it, but I doubt the Yankees felt that way about any of those guys not signed.

Where does Ty Hensley fit into the Yankees top 10 prospects?
Jim Callis: Somewhere toward the end of the list, more because of the Yankees' depth than any concern I have over Hensley's shoulder. I thought Hensley was one of the best high school arms in the draft, though some teams didn't love his delivery

you're probably right, but that's why i said at least Jackson money. he got 800K and more than likely they would have wanted Aune or Hensley money to sign.

very nice signing, he's gonna have to be harnessed but he is a potential beast if he can be developed.

Interesting interview with Hensley. I'll post the link here so anybody can come back to it as his career advances as it talks about his signing and the issue with his shoulder.
