Sweeny Murti ‏@YankeesWFAN Would be surprised if Yanks gave up a lot to get Dempster since they haven't felt SP is a need. Would not be a deal to give up top prospects

Sure, but the question is whether the cost is worth the upgrade.

And pretty inconsistent with how they've handle their other young pitchers lately

Yeah, and if it's really Dante Jr &/or Gumbs just to upgrade the 5th spot in the rotation, that just does not make any sense to do.

I think they could definitely use a pitcher of high quality. I'm not sure Dempster really qualifies for that though. He's more a 3 in the AL in my mind at best.

They also need a bat but I don't see that getting done either.

I think that the Yankees have been short-sighted in their use of him. For whatever reason, it's like they don't completely trust what they see in him. To me, he should have a bigger role on this team and that role should have started months ago.

Yeah, I agree. I guess I just don't see it as a head-scratcher if they're acquiring a rock-solid starting arm (in terms of his durability) considering the current makeup of their staff.

Mark Feinsand ‏@BloggingBombers Sounds like the Cubs are using the Yankees to get the Dodgers to make a deal for Dempster. Yankees will only move if the price is cheap.

This year, there are no moves that absolutely must be made outside of maybe upgrading the utility infielder spot. Then again, that depends on who you ask.

Haven't heard anything about the Yankees being in on anyone else except for Dempster. I guess we will go with Chavez/Nix until Arod returns.

Maybe they can trade another promising relief prospect for a scrub backup catcher.

I agree. Hate to say it, but (considering only realistic deals) this is a roster that can't really be improved in any significant way. Unless Cashman pulls off a very surprising late move, it's going to be all about holding our breath for injured players to return.

In order of their expected return to 100%:
    Swisher
    Teixeira
    Chamberlain
    Rodriguez
    Pettitte

Not expected back: Gardner, Pineda, Rivera

That's a ton of talent out of commission.

The Pineda deal still chaps my hide...

Montero is much better than Martin, defense aside.

The only way I'm trading Montero to Seattle is if I'm getting the King back. Sprinkle in maybe Banuelos and another prospect.

Marc Carig ‏@MarcCarig If Dempster trade gets done, looks loke teams are gonna have to scramble. Told that talks are "nothing serious" with 30 mins to go.

I'm thinking this late,Yanks come up empty.

As someone said earlier, it makes you yearn for the old days.

    Cashman is pissing me off.
