The "Obituaries that don't warrant their own thread" thread

Bluegrass great Doc Watson died yesterday at age 89. A brilliant guitarist, and a favorite of mine.

Since he is the first entry into this thread, he has his own thread.

I understand how this thread came to exist but I find it somewhat callous and disrespectful. Just my opinion. Maybe it's just the title that seems somehow wrong.

I believe the purpose is to add others to this thread so Doc might be the first but there will be several others. John?

I don't care what anyone thinks! Dr. John deserves his very own obituary thread on this site when he finally kicks the bucket.

(and when I saw Doc Watson had died I thought of JL because I know he is fan of Doc.)

The idea is actually to be able to pay respect to someone who's not well known but might be meaningful to a few people on the site, and to do so without creating numerous threads that are only a few posts long.

Vicki can have me in any pool she wants. We don't even have to go into the pool, she can have me anyway.

Doc Watson with his characteristic flatpicking style, in one of his signature tunes:

Would it be better if he put RIP or "Thoughts and Prayers" somehwere in the thread title?

    "Death Notices"?

That's what this is like - the one or two line death notices that go in the newspaper, vs the more notable people who get a photo and story.

Tennesse Stud is a great song. Doc Watson played at my freshman orientation at Hofstra in 1973.

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Kathryn Joosten, a character actress best known as the crotchety, nosey Karen McCluskey on"Desperate Housewives" and the president's secretary on "The West Wing," has died. She was 72.

Joosten, who had battled lung cancer for years, died Saturday in Los Angeles, her publicist Nadine Jolson said.
I'm so sorry to read about this. I'd never in my life watched Desperate Housewives but I loved this woman's performance as Dolores Landingham on The West Wing. She was wonderful. The death of her character on The West Wing came as such a shock and now the actress herself has passed on.

I looked at her IMDB profile and while she was mainly known for these two roles, she was certainly a working actress in many different projects right up to her passing.

    Rest in peace, Mrs. Landingham.

She had cancer on Desperate Housewives as well only in the last season, which was the series final season,, fittingly. I didn't realize she was sick in real life. May she rest in peace. I was very fond of Mrs. McCluskey.
