Andy Pettitte last tune up game is today....
... When do you think he will be in the starting rotation? And how effective is he going to be?
I would say by Friday or Saturday versus Mariners would be the earliest.
As for being effective or not, after the butterflies and the standing ovation, Andy will be like the old Andy.
A shot in the arm of Andy's caliber is as good as it can get. It's never about what you know, it's who you know ..... and who's willing to help you to get where you want to be.

Does'nt look like ol' Andy is ready for prime time yet.
What we can appreciate now is that the Yankees from 1996-2003 were even more extraordinary than we thought.

Re: Andy Pettitte last tune up game is today....
Veterans don't get the same adrenaline pitching in tuneups and rehab starts in the minor leagues as they would in a major league game.
Heck even some minor league prospects are known to get bored playing in the minors.
All that matters is that the stuff is there and that he got his pitch count up.
We won't know if he is ready for prime time until he is on a major league field with his competitive juices and adrenaline at full gear.

Pettitte allowed five runs, three of them earned, and eight hits for the New York Yankees' top affiliate against Pawtucket.
Pettitte walked two, including one batter with the bases loaded, and struck out five.

He's probably treating these games like ST, working on secondary and tertiary pitches. Everyone chill.

Re: Andy Pettitte last tune up game is today....
Given the state of our starting pitching, I think it would be worth bringing Andy up to the ML level to see if, in fact, he has something left.
I am honestly torn on the question of who does Andy replace - on the one hand, I like the idea of moving Hughes back into a setup role and having Andy fill his slot. On the other hand, Phil showed improvement today and deserves another start.
In either case, I think the correct roster move is to DFA Freddy Garcia.Forgive me for taking the Contrarian view

Not worried yet, Andy has always been a very solid Yankee. Allthough if he puts up a linescore like that in the Bronx more than twice, maybe its time to retre yet again, but this time for the final time.

I'm actually pretty scared. Hopefully he doesn't get destroyed. I mean, it is the Mariners, but it didn't seem like he was all that dominant in those minor league starts.

Hughes has had more than enough chances to prove that he's a major-league starter, and he's failed. If they move Phelps to the bullpen in deference to Hughes, they're being foolish. Phelps threw 150 innings last year, so they shouldn't have a problem with him getting 5th-starter starts for the rest of the season.
