Bryce Harper called up
http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?...s_mlb&c_id=mlb
Outfielder Bryce Harper -- the No. 2 prospect in baseball, according to MLB.com -- will be called up from Triple-A Syracuse on Saturday to make his Major League debut for the Nationals at Dodger Stadium, according to the Nationals' public relations Twitter account.
The transaction will complement the club's placement of third baseman Ryan Zimmerman on the 15-day disabled list.

Re: Bryce Harper called up
Interesting timing when he really hasn't done anything in the minors yet
http://www.baseball-reference.com/mi...d=harper002bry
If he struggles badly in the majors do they send him back down? I'd think he'd be the kind of guy that once you call him up he's up for good.

Re: Bryce Harper called up
His overall numbers aren't impressive but the timing's not that bad, he's on a pretty good run right now with an .840 OPS in his last 10 games played...so he isn't in TOO bad of a funk right now, super anxious to see this guy play.

Who is the #1 prospect?

Re: Bryce Harper called up
I'm not sure baseball has ever seen anybody quite like Harper. There have been 19 year olds in the Majors but they never hit 31 HR in JuCo with a wooden bat when they should have been juniors in High School.

Re: Bryce Harper called up
Obviously those are his comparables as far as generational prospects go but I meant as far as his domination with a wooden bat at 17 whereas A-Rod and Griffey were drafted as HS seniors

Re: Bryce Harper called up
Harper is nuts. I can't believe I'm older than a major leaguer.

Re: Bryce Harper called up
I have a soft spot for the Nats, and get to watch a few of their games. He has a great arm on him, and should be good to watch for many years to come. Wouldn't it be good if he came to the Yankees in the future?

Re: Bryce Harper called up
Here, here.....I'm old enough to be Harper's grandmother - with a few years to spare.

I never thought I'd be glued to the TV watching the Nats, but between this guy and Strasburg, the only thing you need is some popcorn and a Pepsi. The whole team seems to be hitting their stride. Great to see.
Speaking of Strasburg, anyone here up to the task of finishing one of these?

Re: Bryce Harper called up
His approach is off the charts. Reminds me of a healthy Heyward as a rookie.

Three walks tonight. Phils didn't seem to want to give anything to hit.

Re: Bryce Harper called up
I hear you guys about watching the games. In fact when I was driving up from NC last week I had gone through the the broadcast area and got to listen to a large chunk of the Nats game. I'm almost a bandwagon fan just cuz of Harper and Stras. I've always loved Gio Gonzalez and Tyler Clippard, Zimmerman is awesome, Werth should be, and I like Morse alot. they are a fun team.

Re: Bryce Harper called up
He looks dumb as a brick, but that was an intelligent steal.
Hamels paid no attention to him once he got to 3rd, slowly builds up a ridiculous lead, acts nonchalantly and takes advantage of a slow pick off move in the blink of an eye.Fistpumping like a champion.

Re: Bryce Harper called up
According to MLBs Twitter the Nationals sent an autographed Bryce Harper bat to Ozzie that said "To my hero, Ozzie, Love you"
I love it.

Re: Bryce Harper called up
Ever since I heard that he was openly rooting for the Yankees in the playoffs last year, I have been a fan.
was that why he shut down his twitter account?

Re: Bryce Harper called up
I don't know - I'm not a facebook or twitter person. I guess players in the NL usually root for another NL team during the playoffs/WS and ditto for the AL.
He got mad with himself on Monday night and broke his bat in half - as he was going down the steps to the clubhouse. I give him points for trying to get out of camera range before he did it.September 28, 2008 - the day the HOF got a wake-up Moose call.

Re: Bryce Harper called up
Lets see, so far he has beat up a wall with a bat, which hit him back and gave him stitches... broke a bat over his knee... basically called out Guillen by holding his bat up to him when he came up to bat... etc. I am sure there is a few things that I forgot already. There is no denying Harper's talent, but if he is this cocky and angry as a rookie, what's he going to be like after a few years of MLB experience under his belt?
