Non-numbered Throwback Uniforms

All,

Since the Yankees were the first to wear numbers on their jerseys in 1930, and last night's games wore the 1912 uniforms, I'm asking when was the last time that the Yanks have worn uniforms preceding the 1930 season? If so, have the Yankees ever worn the NY Highlanders' uniforms before, on any similar "Throwback uniform" type of night?

Please feel free to discuss other teams' throwback uniforms as well.

Cleveland wore numbers during the 1916 season, then dropped them. The Yankees were the first to adopt them permanently.

Mentions the game ending hits that were home runs -- hits that got reduced down from home runs only because of the one-run win rule.

World champs, that's pretty funny, and rather gaudy IMO. Imagine the ridicule we would get if we ever tried wearing those next year after we win the world series this year.

No, The only time the Yankees wore a uniform different from their standard one was in a 1996 game at Tiger Stadium were they wore the Negro League uniforms of the New York Black Yankees.

So only at home they wore the numbers, but never on the road? I think that the current Red Sox do the opposite, don't they?

So that's what they wore on the road and at home the entire year after they'd won the WS? BTW, was it even called the "World Series" back then?

No, The only time the Yankees wore a uniform different from their standard one was in a 1996 game at Tiger Stadium were they wore the Negro League uniforms of the New York Black Yankees.

I think that the NY Black Yankees played most of their games at Yankee Stadium, correct? Is that how they got their name, or did they just consider it "cute" to call themselves the Black Yankees?

I believe they did play their home games at Yankee Stadium. But unlike the "real" Yankees, the "Black Yankees" were usually at the bottom of the league standings.
