    HM: Chavez was awesome with his 2HRs but I'm giving an HM to Martin, coming out of his slump with a hard hit ball where he was robbed and then a big HR and for calling a great game as Nova's battery mate.

    More than promise, Dave, in the first half of the 2000s he was really a star-caliber player for the A's, an excellent fielding third baseman with a 126 OPS+ from 2000-2004. He actually turned in a pretty distinguished part-career before his body broke down.

    I wasn't real happy with his performance here last year (during the half-season he was actually healthy) and was kind of mystified that they wanted to keep him, but hey, he had a great game. If I'm not mistaken he matched last year's HR total in one game today. I hope to eat some crow on this guy.
