Re: 2012 Curtis Granderson Performance Thread
The Yankees have his option for $13 million for next year. I think the most likely scenario is that they pick that up and then see what makes sense following next year, when he'll turn 33 before the season starts.

Re: 2012 Curtis Granderson Performance Thread
Yadier Molina (5/$75) and CJ Wilson (5/$77.5) are both contracts I'd rather have than Granderson for (5/$75). They both just signed this past offseason. Aramis Ramirez signed a 3/$36 contract as well. I'd rather have that considering the money and years.
Obviously Ramirez doesn't fit this team at all, but a player of that caliber for less years and less money per year is somebody I'd rather have than Grandy.
Guys that I'd rather have, that will be as expensive or cheaper than Grandy, that are free agents after 2013 (depending on what they do in 2013):
Brian McCann
Josh Johnson
Matt Garza
Tim Lincecum
Remember we have Williams and Heathcott in our minor league system, along with Gardner under control through 2014.

Re: 2012 Curtis Granderson Performance Thread
He hit .647OPS vs. LHPs in 2010. .749OPS vs. LHPs career.
.749 OPS in 2012 vs. LHPs.
I mentioned last year too that he still can't see the pitch coming out of LHPs' hands and still couldn't touch breaking balls in the lower 3rd of the zone. The difference was Long got him to adjust so he could hit all the mistakes out the park.
It would appear scouting reports have caught up.

Re: 2012 Curtis Granderson Performance Thread
i went to a few games last week and even with my naked eyes, i could see that his front shoulder was opening up on his swings... he's pull-happy right now, and they're exploiting it

Re: 2012 Curtis Granderson Performance Thread
He has always been pull happy.
Career, he pulled in 1545 out of 3151 PAs according to FG, 49.0%.
This year he's at 188/379 for 49.6%.

Re: 2012 Curtis Granderson Performance Thread
true, but what i meant was that it seems like he's swinging for the short porch every time up now, and it shows in his ugly hacks
pitchers are just feeding him a steady diet of breaking stuff away, and he's biting... he has something like 30 K's against 5 BB's in 20 games this month alone, which is absurd... like adam dunn levels of absurd

Re: 2012 Curtis Granderson Performance Thread
Right, and I pointed out that was always the case. I don't remember the site but there was a site that showed hot/cold zones and BAs.
Granderson, even in 2011, was stone cold vs. breaking balls. The two major differences between his 2010 and 2011 hot zones vs. lefties was he crushed everything fast middle in and was lukewarm vs. hanging breaking balls.
That's still a massive improvement. Since prior to KLong's fixing, he couldn't even hit those.

all i know is that they should at least consider dangling him some trades this winter, although his $15mil price tag may be prohibitive

Congrats , 40 homeruns back to back seasons, joins The Babe, The Iron Horse, The Commerce Comet, and the Giambino as the only Yankees to accomplish this feat.

Were any of the 40 home runs hit when there was anyone on base?

You just can't hide this guy in a lineup. The opposing team finds him everytime.

Re: 2012 Curtis Granderson Performance Thread
The homeruns are great but I think that Curtis has become one dimensional. To me he has all these offensive talents, including his speed, yet he has become in a sense Dave Kingman. And I think that Granderson is a better player than that and he should have a higher average and higher on base percentage.

Re: 2012 Curtis Granderson Performance Thread
Curtis Stranderson strikes again. How many times has he failed with the bases loaded and less than 2 outs this season? I'd say at least 5 times off the top of my head.

Besides homers, he's been pretty useless since the All Star break.

Re: 2012 Curtis Granderson Performance Thread
Through all this, when everybody is all over Granderson, and while people marvel at the season Jeter's having...Granderson still has a higher OPS than Jeter.
Now, that says at least as much about how misleading stats can be as anything else, but it's not like 40 home runs have no value.

Re: 2012 Curtis Granderson Performance Thread
Of course, Derek Jeter has a 117 wRC+, .347 wOBA and a 3.4 fWAR, while Curtis Granderson has a 113 wRC+, .340 wOBA and a 2.2 fWAR. Still really close numbers and I understand your point, but let's not make it sound like Granderson has had a better statistical season than Jeter.
