Re: 2012 Curtis Granderson Performance Thread
Good game. Only 1 K. When did he become worse than AJax?

Re: 2012 Curtis Granderson Performance Thread
Granderson gives you decent defense with 35-40 Homers, 100 + RBI's, and 100 runs: offset by the fact that his batting average is closer to Martins than to Jeters. He strikes out in triple figures, doesn't provide 40 plus doubles, and at a .330 OBP. A decent player, but no reason to sign him for big money.

Re: 2012 Curtis Granderson Performance Thread
Pick up the option. Let Granderson play out the option. Chance are he will have a very good season. Maybe not 2011 but similar to this season. He will be 33 in the first season of the extension. Some combination of Williams/Heathcott/Austin will be ready at some point in 2014. Expensive IF with AROD,Tex and Cano. Save $ in the OF and behind the plate with Sanchez.

For sure, and then they let him walk as a FA.

Re: 2012 Curtis Granderson Performance Thread
I'm all for trading him while his homers somewhat mask his deficiencies and make him somewhat attractive to other teams. I'm not liking his HR or miss, low contact bat and his defense will only worsen as he slows.
The trade is going to be a tougher pill to swallow in the coming years, but what's done is done. It's time to get something for him while his trade value is relatively high. Nice guy, very likeable, but you know how that goes.

Re: 2012 Curtis Granderson Performance Thread
When you factor everything in: the players we gave up, including two useful arms, but especially AJax's offensive and defensive abilities, AJax's age, his cost- controlled salary, our having to lose either Granderson or Swisher to keep under $189 million, Granderson's lack of contact at the plate and his subpar defense -- this really will turn out to be a a sh!t trade when all is said and done.

Re: 2012 Curtis Granderson Performance Thread
This argument can be made, but still too early to say definitively. Of course it's quite possible that Granderson and AJax's 2013 seasons look more like their respective 2011 seasons.
I'm sure Tiger fans are excited about Jackson's improved BB and K rates, his increase in power... but he's still highly dependent on babip. He's at .380 this year, and was at .396 in '10. He may be able to sustain that, he may not. He'd be a significant outlier if he did. If he doesn't, you've got what they had last season - a slick centerfielder that is a liability at the plate. And reality is that Jackson wouldn't have made a difference in '10 or '11, whereas in '11 Granderson was a beast and certainly did his share in the playoffs in both '10 and '11. Hopefully he gets it together for October '12.
Boone Logan has consistently outperformed Phil Coke, so no real loss there. Kind of like your fascination with Aceves, it's not like his absence has hurt the team. In fact, all things being equal his retention would have taken up innings from guys that actually produced better during the time in question.
IPK was the guy at the time I hated to see included, would have hoped they could have included a lesser prospect. He's really struggling right now, and reality is that he's probably not as bad as he's been this year nor as good as he was last year. What that would look like in the AL East, who knows.

Re: 2012 Curtis Granderson Performance Thread
As much as I admire Grandy, I couldn't agree more. The Yanks gave up a prospect who's now a better player than Grandy. Add to that they also gave up another cost controlled player, a SP, who's better than the current #5 and as good as the #4. Phil Coke would also have been useful.
The sad part about it is the Tigers were in "salary dump" mode with Grandy who was on the verge of being a $26 million (3 years) platoon player.

Re: 2012 Curtis Granderson Performance Thread
The trade gave the Yankees a better cumulative chance of winning over the past three years, especially last year, but given Curtis's end of 2010, in that year as well. (This year is not over.)
That makes it a good trade for a team that is trying to win every year.
They do not have to give Curtis a new contract.

Re: 2012 Curtis Granderson Performance Thread
Curtis is a strange dude. His body type and intelligence dictate that he should be a better all around hitter, rather than a mini Adam Dunn.

Re: 2012 Curtis Granderson Performance Thread
With his athletic abilities, combination of power and speed, you would hope that you would get at least Ricky Henderson light.
Instead, you get a low contact, home run-or-miss-player, with a poor on-base rate, who isn't selective at the plate and hasn't incorporated his speed into his offensive game. In short, a waste of talent. That's not to mention the subpar defense he gives you in CF. I did a 180 on him last year, but am seeing the same flaws I saw in his first season here and just don't see him being a consistent, reliable performer. No wonder the fans soured on him in Detroit.
If there are going to be payroll restrictions and it comes down to a choice between him and Swisher, I hope Cashman is smart and savvy enough to choose the latter. Why sign someone who has disappointingly underperformed and whose game, especially on defense, will only worsen with age?
