Re: 2012 Curtis Granderson Performance Thread
I'm not sure when we saw a player as "all or nothing" as Curtis Granderson.
His K rate is even worse than last year.
2011 = 691 PA, 169 K = 1 per 4.1 PA
2012 = 319 PA, 83 K = 1 per 3.8 PAGO YANKS
1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 8, 9, 10, 15, 16, 20, 23, 32, 37, 42, 44, 46, 49, 51

Bumping because I think he is starting to resemble Adam Dunn and Dave Kingman at the plate. We could have Cust or Branyan do that for us for a lot cheaper.

Re: 2012 Curtis Granderson Performance Thread
Ok, maybe I overstated it. But I do wonder why he is immune to the criticism that Alex, Teix and Swisher get. I know he is a great guy and all, and fits the Yankee persona. But I think that Cash really needs to question the wisdom of giving this guy a megacontract in the future. He has batted closer to .250 than .300 the last two seasons and his K rate is high.

Re: 2012 Curtis Granderson Performance Thread
His Offensive WAR alone (not including his defense) is on track to be about 5 for the season. I'll take that out of any player, let alone a center fielder. His wRC+ is 129, which is again great. I think we are all a little high on his 2011 season.
edit: his D-WAR is negative, but I'm not sure I trust that figure.A fool and his money can throw one heck of a party!

Re: 2012 Curtis Granderson Performance Thread
His D-war has been negative fairly consistently, often by large margins for a while, even before he started playing with Gardner in LF.
Even if you don't trust defensive measures fully and want to account for human/methodology error, the numbers are consistently bad enough over large samples (since 2008) at best he's below average as CF.

Re: 2012 Curtis Granderson Performance Thread
With 2 strikes everyone in the park knows what is coming but Grandy can't seem to hold off breaking stuff in the dirt. If he can adjust to this he should put up monster numbers.

Re: 2012 Curtis Granderson Performance Thread
curtis granderson has always be a K heavy guy. I don't remember the site that showed heat maps but he never could hit breaking balls down. The adjustments he made with KLong allowed him to hammer fastballs (and changeups) in but not much else.
In many ways, he's really a slightly less pull happy version of Teixeira with more speed but less plate discipline.

I'd rather he not strike out as much; but I'd rather him this way than how he was when he first arrived in New York.

They should hang K cards from the upper deck for his AB's.

Re: 2012 Curtis Granderson Performance Thread
Terrible outfielder. He'll come up with a really good play once in awhile.
More times than not, he constantly misreads the ball. Next year will be his last here.
Like I said when the trade was made, other than power, AJAX will be the better player.

Re: 2012 Curtis Granderson Performance Thread
He just gets terrible reads off the bat and then proceeds to take horrible routes way too often.
