“One thing that we’ve seen Freddy be really good at, is minimize the damage and make good pitches with people on base,” Manager Joe Girardi said. “But he gave up a lot of two-out runs today, and that was the difference.”

Before the game Girardi was noncommittal about what might happen when Pettitte is ready to return around May 10.

“I try not to worry about things that are not right in front of me,” he said. “We are a ways away. As a manager, you’ve got enough to handle on that day and the next day that I try not to think 25 days ahead.”

Okay - I had to laugh at this:

He held the Yankees scoreless over the next six innings to win his first game of the season and his first game against his former team. But after the first inning, in which he gave up all three runs, it seemed it would go much differently, and Pavano returned to the dugout disgusted with himself.

“I was kicking myself in the butt,” he said.

Garcia's got 4 more starts to make before Pettitte is projected to be ready. Hopefully what we're seeing is early season rust that he can scrape off.

It's amazing how much venom there is after two lousy starts for a guy who pitched very well for the team last season. I don't expect him to repeat and I'm sure he'll be out of the rotation once Pineda and Pettitte are back, but it seems like people are jumping down the guy's throat awfully quickly.

It would be one thing if he was facing juggurnaut offenses, but the O's and Twins are damn near punchless. Hell he made Mauer and Morneau look like it was 2006.

I doubt that freddy and others would say that the Twins are punchless, after tearing us apart last night, at least not with likes of Morneau, and Mauer. Can't we at the very least try to be a little careful with the oppositions power, or are we out to pad every ones stats??

I'm not really "jumping down his throat" but for a guy who griped so much about the Yankees having too many pitchers i expect more from him.

With Garcia pitching so poorly, I do not see how you can go wrong with either at this point. As good as Garcia was last year, he has been been anything but in 2012.

Freddy has become an excellent batting practice pitcher for the opposition.

Hope Andy (unlike Pineda ) has no setbacks as he readies for the season. This team needs him. Or David Phelps should be given the next few Garcia starts and bring someone else up as the long man.
