I don't really care what Ozzie said. It's not 1950. If he's a communist or supports Castro, that's his prerogative. However, what he said was a) insensitive, and b) incredibly stupid, considering he works for the MIAMI Marlins, whose ballpark is in Little HAVANA.

He gets suspended for 5 games for saying inappropriate comment. He's an employee who represents his team. If the team thinks that his action hurts the team, they have every right to suspend him and that's for good reason.

It is indeed true - I watched that game as well as the one that was played at Camden Yards. Fidel Castro always dreamed of being a professional baseball player. Read more about it here:

What Selig did and the Marlins did are separate issues. And to lots of Cubans, especially to Cubans who escape from Cuba to USA, I think Castro may be viewed as evil. Selig's double standard shouldn't affect how the Marlins did to Guillen, especially if you think that Selig is a joke.

Never once have I mentioned in any of my posts here that Ozzie Guillen does not deserve or does deserve the 5 game suspension. That is not for me to decide. I just find it to be highly hypocritical that the media goes ape sh*t on Ozzie along with many fans here but it they are either not aware of the MLB's visit to Cuba or choose to ignore it.

There has been a lot of discussion about Ozzie Guillen on this thread itself as if the posters seem to know Ozzie personally. I am not a fan of his nor am I a fan of the Marlins owner as indicated earlier but there seems to be a much deeper problem here than just Ozzie supporting Castro. It has the feel of a witch hunt to it.

This decision sets a horrible precedent for baseball. I may dislike Guillen and his whole act but this decision was beyond ridiculous.

The alternative was to fire Guillen. This is a better result for him. Realize that he was brought in specifically to establish a closer relationship between the Marlins and the latin american community. Instead he blew up the whole place and people are going to picket outside and boycott all their sponsors. Could not possibly have put the Marlins in a worse position

I think Ozzie should show up to post-game interviews in an "Elian Gonzalez is Where He Belongs" T-Shirt
