Re: The Yu Darvish thread.
If you have 6 or so minutes to kill here's all of his strikeouts. 197 of them were swinging.

Re: The Yu Darvish thread.
Seems like the overwhelming majority of the swings and misses were out of the zone. Granted, that's some good stuff, but patience seems to be key in getting to him.
I wonder if teams have just been overly aggressive in his first season, sort of a "Welcome to MLB" kind of thing, without realizing that he's got some skill. It's going to take a disciplined approach to take him down.
Very impressive first year.

Re: The Yu Darvish thread.

Re: The Yu Darvish thread.
Data on fangraphs doesn't bear this out.
Out of zone swing %s on Darvish's pitch types:
FA: 19.7%
SL: 46.3%
FT: 28.4%
FC: 31.4%
CU: 20.9%
FS: 30.0%
CC Sabathia:
FA: 26.9%
SL: 43.3%
SI: 37.1%
CH: 37.6%
CU: 3.9%
Sorted by O-Swing%, Darvish is 41 out of 89 pitchers Fangraphs lists as "qualified."
Same group, Darvish's 72.7% contact% is lowest. Runner up is Cole Hamels and Edwin Jackson at 73.6%. Z-Contact, 8th at 84.1%. CC at 85.7%, Verlander at 80.9% and Dick in first place with 79.1%. AJ Burnett in third from last place at 92.5%.
Yu Darvish is not getting a lot of cheap Ks. It's pretty clear from the O-Swing stats batters are already trying to wait him out.

Re: The Yu Darvish thread.
Darvish is an ace. Texas put those 100 ml to good use, without question.
All you have to ask yourself is ... If Stephen Strasburg was available via free agency, how much would you pony up ?
Yu Darvish is at least comparable to Strasburg.? Can switching to Geico really save you 15 % or more on car insurance ? ? Does the postman always ring twice ?

Re: The Yu Darvish thread.
Sanchez, Verlander, Buchholz, and King Felix have all been as good although I wouldn't put Clay in that group going forward and definitely not Anibal.
