Re: 2012 General Yankee Comments Thread
Today was the second time since 1918 that three Yankees pitched 0 innings in a regular season or postseason game. The first time was May 15, 1949. It's the fifth time three teammates have pitched 0 innings in a postseason game.

Kuroda is the third pitcher since 1903 to have no walks and at least 11 strikeouts in a postseason game his team lost. The first two pitchers to do that also played in the area. They were Tom Seaver of the Mets in 1973 and Don Newcombe of the Dodgers in 1949.

Phil Coke became the first pitcher to pitch at least 2 innings and get a save in a postseason game against the Yankees since Steve Howe in 1981.

This isn't new news. This rumor has been around for awhile.
In other news some of my favorite quotes of the day......
John Smoltz
"These really aren't great pitches he is throwing, the Yankee hitters are having alot of trouble with pitch recognition."
Curt Schilling
"If an umpire can't get that call right, then things have to change."
"30 seconds after that call was made everybody on Earth knew he was out except one person.....the guy who made the call."Fistpumping like a champion.

Peralta made 3 barehanded plays all year.......2 in the last 2 games.
Meanwhile, Robby horribly blows an easy DP that gave up the winning run.

C'mon you have to give the miami and dodgers some credit. They are not taking Arod.
Forgetaboutit.
There's no upside to that deal.
The Yanks are stuck with Alex and the 5 years-$114M contract.
Randy Levine, you are so lucky I didn't own the Yankees. Your ass would be SO fired.

Just one clown, really. Swish.
Robbie probably needs theorapy *tongue-in-cheek*, don't know what on Earth is up (or rather, down) with him.
Can't pick on Tex -- he's going all out even on the bases, with his calf issue. And there's Raul, the equivalent of 4 players...
Was there today, pretty sickening outside of HK of course, Raul...
Was anticipating extra innings.
Was telling a Tigers fan on the way out that he'd better be worried 'cause
are the total underdogs now and (to repeat from another post somewhere) -- this entire season has been nothing but a total Odds-Beater, all around.
Not gonna count 'em out, no matter how nauseating right now. JMHO.
The ump eff-ups should be expected by now, on a daily basis. They've been funky since Spit Gate. He'll never get another milestone like that one. So what? His whole career is a milestone.

Are you kidding me? He'll be lucky to get 5/$70M. Even for that...the Yankees shouldnt resign him.Vin Scully on Stan Musial (aka Baseball's Perfect Knight):

Re: 2012 General Yankee Comments Thread
I think this postseason, the Yanks have found that he's limited.
He offers versatility being a first baseman and outfielder, but he's mediocre at both positions.
If they don't resign Swish, do you see them chasing Hamilton?
I'd love to have his talent and Yankee Stadium would be perfect for him, his emotional baggage just says "Stay Away"
Not sure if he could handle the 24/7 New York sized scrutiny.

Re: 2012 General Yankee Comments Thread
At this point, who gives a damn what the umps do or don't do? If we cannot score a single run in about 19 of 20 innings or so, and Motown toys with us by trotting out Phil Coke, a lefty specialist that Joe Torre did his best to get rid of, for a 2-inning save, then nothing is going right.
Now going against Verlarde in Game 3, and we have to hope that CC will save us in Game 4.

Re: 2012 General Yankee Comments Thread
Unless Alex decides to call it a career before the contract runs out. At some point, a proud athlete might realize that his skills are so diminished that riding out a contract at a fraction of his former skills for an ungodly number of years is just too degrading to be worth the money. What does he already have in the bank, half a billion dollars? The choice: leave the remaining money on the table, or humiliate yourself for several more years just to collect a paycheck.

Around here where I live and work I am surrounded by Red Sox fans. They are drooling over the possibility of getting Swisher. As I say to them, "please take Swisher off our hands." He is just the kind of personality that will go over well in Boston, and he can help THEM lose games next year.

Re: 2012 General Yankee Comments Thread
I care. Of course the Yankee offense is a collective sh*tstorm right now, but you're talking about 2 potentially game changing calls. When your pitching is stellar, you're supposed to be able to steal a game or two if your offense is sputtering. The umpires had a big hand in preventing that.
